It might help if John would look up the definition of ‘relationship’.

You still have attitudes towards God, or the concept of God. You've probably stated many of them on the forum. And if not, we can test it right now. Do you agree with at least one of the following statements: 1. The God of the Bible is capriciously malevolent. 2. The God of the Bible is merciful and gracious.
Nope. The god of the Bible is fictitious. You could assess his actions within the biblical narrative but it's about as productive looking for the motivations for Little Bo-Peep.

Correct, it would be non existent, as in no relationship, no girlfriend would exist.
I thought it an imperfect analogy, as we know girlfriends can exist, unlike deities, but it's actually not a bad analogy at all.
I was using an example of something that we can all agree exists (I hope) to highlight how not having any entails not being in a relationship. I could have had him in a relationship with his hand, but then I'd have needed to employ amputation to properly get the point across and I viewed that as unkind.

I find the God of the Bible to be a reprehensible character, but that assessment is neither the cause nor the source of my atheism. If he was all sweetness and light, goodness and mercy, I still wouldn’t believe.

..and yet here you are, treating people poorly. This is why atheists don't have to go door to door. We have the likes of you out there shitting on christian beliefs for us.

You might not think it is, but the attitude definitely influenced your position. Surely, you at least don't deny the correlation? It's not a coincidence why every atheist in the past few pages doubled down on God being reprehensible, when you know not a single Christian would ever agree with that assessment.

I found god to be absent. Apparently, he thought that the abuse I endured at the hands of my parents was okay. I prayed with all the faith a child could muster in the hope that god would intervene. Two reasons that he didn't came to mind...either as a little kid I deserved what was happening or I was praying to the sky and no one was there to listen or offer help.
If I were to go into some of the stories I would find some of them reprehensible. But that isn't what caused my lack of faith.

Christians aren't particularly notable for their good moral sense.

You can't deny something that isn't there
