As of last night, Australia had ONE gold medal (none in swimming)

The hatchets are already out, blaming the coaches and the athletes' 'attitude' and ' lack of discipline'. One athlete said all that needs to be said,in my opinion "we were beaten by a better side"

The churlish attitude being displayed in our media makes me want to throw up,reinforcing my disinterest in the Olympic Games since they were professionalised. I like to watch the ice skating, gymnastics and ski jumping for the aesthetics, not the competition.

Tangent ; These game are the first in which a double amputee has competed against able bodied athletes. He is going to be SO rich, whatever happens.

I can blame that on Australians having a grossly inflated sense of importance in the world. We think we are as important as the United Kingdom, while in fact we are about as important as the Netherlands or Poland.

I've definitely caught Olympic fever! I think nearly everyone in London has it. It's been fantastic so far. The atmosphere all over London has been brilliant. I'm gutted I didn't manage to get any tickets. Last week I was walking past the Archery every day on the way to/from work and I wanted so bad to go in and watch. Sad

The extra money I'm getting just for turning up for work is also helping me enjoy it. Along with my Games-Time Travel and lovely Pink olympics high-vis jacket!

Having read through this thread, which highlights the problems of who is selected, etc for the Olympics. Might I suggest in future it is done differently.
Instead of having professional athletes selected and hothoused and possibly drugged, into condition by their countries.
Each country submits to a random selection from all its citizens about a month before the Olympics. In this way the Olympics would be a fair reflection of the fitness levels of the citizens of each country, rather than just the money each country has to throw at a few physically abnormal individuals.

Australia's natural resources are hugely important to the world economically, on the other hand what are the british providing for the world other than failing and corrupt banks, and if you lived in britain you would know that the only people who work here now are the Poles. And the Dutch provide all our drugs.

Are you serious?

How the hell is random selection going to be a fair reflection of the fitness levels of different countries.

A fat, overweight Kenyan could be picked to do the 10000 metres for his country, but a slim, fit guy from America (the fattest nation in the world) could by chance be picked for his.

Fair reflection my arse.
