50 Simple Proofs, God is Imaginary
#91
RE: 50 Simple Proofs, God is Imaginary
No atheist here will accept claims on anything based on personal experience only. If you can back up any claim with something else that can be verified we can evaluate it. Until then it is nothing more than idle speculation and bold assertions. I am sure you think that is unreasonable but keep in mind, you are the one making the assertions, we do no believe in your god and it will take more than your personal experiences to convince us.
Best regards,

Solarwave,

I've had some experiences with apparently miraculous healing but I would never expect people to accept my word. At the time they were edifying to my walk with Christ but I have since re-evaluated my experiences and found them lacking either due to medical intervention or straight up delusion on my part.

I don't think people believe you are lying as much as they question the validity of your perception. The Christian worldview typically includes miracles so it is very possible that you could be ignoring the very real reasons someone was healed, i.e. medical intervention, and prefer to believe that God intervened. If you were right there and saw someone's arm grow back we would want video due to the outrageousness of the claim.

This is the way I look at it at least; I assume people are as truthful as I am and then try to comprehend what they are saying.

Equally Rhiz it could be you that is deluding yourself now. That has to work both ways to be true.

Im not trying to say you should believe in God because of what I say, its just something to think about.

Rhizomorph13 in what way were you delusional?

Well I don't really tend to think a huge amount any times I have heard of God healing someone while in hospital, so much so I cant recall hearing of events such as those. The only healings I ever talk about tend to be pretty instant ones, so about a minute or less.

I'd believe in a faith healing of something without a spontaneous remission rate, oh like...amputees?

You felt the need to point this out... why? Dude, the whole reason I am here is to further my quest for the truth. You are much to defensive and reactive about your faith. You have failed on all accounts to present a continuous narrative that comes close to explaining your "reason" for believing in God, even when I offered a private option (Granted maybe you didn't trust that I would keep it private but you failed to express that). I appreciate some of what you bring to the forums but much of the time you are so dodgy that it hurts my mind!

Well, hmm, I have touched people because I felt God leading me to heal them. I concluded that they were healed because of my touch due to a feeling from God.

"But Rhizo, you didn't talk to them to verify that they had any medical problem?"
"NO, I 'knew' from my word of knowledge!"

Me now= /facepalm at me then.

So blind and deaf and people with severe allergic reactions dont count?

Anyway I googled it and found this (remember I havn't looked into this I just found it):

"You need someone pretty developed in their faith to get miracles of that kind.

These are healing evangelists I know did cure people with missing limbs in the last century:
* [UK] Smith Wigglesworth - one case of a person with missing feet (others also possible)
*[UK] Jeffreys brothers
*[US] John G. Lake
* [US] William Seymour (one case with person with missing leg, and one case with a missing arm, probably lost through industrial accidents.)
*[US] Alexander Dowie

Note in all those peoples' ministries many cancers were healed, including one's at a very late stage with multiple cancerous growths."
Rhizomorph13:

So in your cases of healing you didn't know if they were ill or if they were healed, so isn't alot like what Im claiming? Smile

And in the spirit of truth I felt you missed that point. I recognise your position having been there myself and understand how that works. Calm down Rhiz it's not so bad.

Fr0d0,

Don't provoke me unless you want a response. The retarded obviousness of what you "added" to the discussion was as plain as the nose on your clown face! For future reference I do not automatically consider myself exempt from things I suggest might apply to someone else. Usually after I accuse someone of a particular failing I meditate on how that same failing could apply to me.

Solarwave,

When it comes to medical facts I need extreme evidence because there is so much bad data floating around with regards to health and the quest for healing. Homeopathy, I'm looking at you!

Please give a link for your information so we can review it properly.

Please fix this question so I can answer it:

Quote:So in your cases of healing you didn't know if they were ill or if they were healed, so isn't alot like what Im claiming?

I'm not sure what you are asking. If you are trying to use a rhetorical question then I have no idea what conclusion you are trying to lead me to.

Thanks,
Rhizo

Rhizo:

I got the facts from a yahoo question and answer things. So not that reliable, so I would just type in the name of the person in google and healing missing limbs of whatever.

Thats a broken question isn't it lol. I didn't mean to make it a question. I was just saying your experience isn't like mine so you can't claim I or others can be delusional in the same way you were.
