"Clinical Depression" - that's what my friend has. I disagree entirely that "Clinical Depression" is the type of depression that benefits most from pills.
And PS: As he hasn't been monitored by a psychiatrist for the last 15 years, he is - by definition alone - presently not receiving the correct professional care that he needs. "Clinical" Depression asserts that it needs to be treated by a physician qualified to treat it; yet he is treated by a general practitioner and not someone qualified to correctly diagnose and treat mental illness.
PPS: I've already proven to you why the anti-depressants do not help him in his individual case.

It is a recurring, potentially lifelong affliction. You've gone from one extreme to the other. My original assertion was in error - I made the correction: in most cases depression is curable.
You've gone to the extreme in saying that "no depression is cured". This simply is not true, I have friends and other acquaintances who have been through depression and come out of it. The cause of depression can be physical, it can be a reaction to substance abuse or certain medications, it can be due to an underactive thyroid, all of the physical causes can be cured readily just like Vitiligo can be cured in most cases (though I have a friend who's had it for about 6 years now and can't get rid of it).

Daniel are you a psychiatrist? If not shut the fuck up. Your are a amateur and you are just pissing people off.
If you are psychiatrist , are you your "friends" psychiatrist? If not use a different source to try to prove whatever you are trying to prove. If you are, he's fucked.

Dude you're the idiot who said "clinical depression". How can it be clinical if it isn't correctly treated with a physician qualified to treat it? The definition of a clinical illness of any description is an illness that requires the attention of a trained physician qualified to treat the condition. If it's a clinical mental illness it can't be treated by a GP because a GP is not qualified to treat psychiatric illnesses. Only psychiatrists are physicians qualified to treat clinical mental illness. A GP is a professional - but not a professional in the field of psychiatry.

Here you go with your ridiculous hearsay arguments. I don't give a shit what your friend, your mama, your neighbor or your fucking cat went through. It is a fact that you are 50% more likely to have another major depression in your lifetime if you have one. It increases in that manner every time you have one. If your friend had "it" for about six years, it can definitely happen again. It doesn't matter if it was caused by an outside event. My first depression was caused by a beta blocker. I've been off it for a long time. Still get depressed. Oh, wait, you'll just ignore that first-person experience. How about this? Your assertions go against those of professionals. You. are. an. idiot.

Oh my fucking god. You know so little about this illness it is astounding. Clinical fucking depression is not defined by treatment. Please, oh please, read something on depression. Stop going by your apparently endless train of depressed acquaintances. (Yes, that is an insinuation that you're a liar. Mostly for fun)

I believe what you mean is "I've given you the same type of evidence that I so readily reject when given to me."
Are you really this insane?

Pills and therapy.
You're welcome.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Religion.
Aside from the obvious question of whether religion's claims are true or not, religion is a beneficial psychological comfort.
If it helps return some functionality to your life, a better state of mind, a better quality of life, you should at least consider it as a relief to depression.
Try it for six months and tell me what happens. I'm curious myself.
