Aside from medication and therapy, the third best 'cure' for depression is exercise. A lot of the times exercise will balance out your serotonin and dopamine levels. Man evolved to be an active creature, to hunt and gather and move. The rise of depression and anxiety in our society is highly related to our sedentary lifestyle. I greatly reduced my own anxiety problems by adopting a far more active lifestyle.

^ Correct, depending on the cause of your depression exercise can be effective in relieving it.

Acknowleging that I had a problem was the hardest part for me. I desperatly tried to keep up a delusion for me and my surroundings that I was alright, when in fact I wasn`t.

Which made things worse, up to the point when I acknowleged that it couldnt go on.

And it's even worse if you acknowledge it to friends and family and find that they don't support you (simply by being wilfully ignorant of the fact you have it). I know some people this happened to.

Sometimes the family isn't even being willfully ignorant about it. I've met parents that just didn't care. When I was younger and still living with my parents, they allowed a friend of mine to stay at their home, becuase he was having trouble with his parents and had been kicked out(which had more to do with my friend's parents inability to properly parent than my friend's behavior). One day when I came from work, I found my friend in my parent's basement slicing himself with a razor blade. I called his parents to tell them what was going on, and his dad said to me, "What do you want me to do about it?". So, I took him myself to get him checked into the psychiatric hospital.

Another friend of mine did have parents that were willfully ignorant, and that ended in a much worse manner. Worse yet, that friend was afraid to talk to his parents about how he felt, because he thought they would have a negative reaction.

I definitely have to give a big chunk of credit to my parents for giving me an amazing amount of support during my struggles.

I know a guy in his 40's that still slices himself, using his many knives. He has seen psychologists many, many times.

I would probably still do it if it didn't freak people out.

WTF cure? When has therapy and medication cured depression?

At best for most it will mitigate the effects, so you won't be as depressed as usual. Very few people report their problems being completely resolved due to therapy and medication.
