It's a bit disappointing, this thread.
I'd hoped at last the descendants of the refugee dinosaurs had returned, to tell us how awful it was and invoke guilt in all the mammals who got off so easy.

Its like with jesus crust people focus on how he died and not what he said. probably the most stupid example but still (February 9, 2013 at 8:34 am)Phish Wrote: well do you now know more about the dinosaurs when you know how they died. We know of the impact and devastation that an asteroid impact can have, and we can learn how the dinosaurs were wiped out, we can learn about why the climate deteriorated, there's an inordinate amount we could learn, which could benefit us right now and in the future. Darn, beaten by Nap again. No wonder he got the Austrians to surrender at Ulm. Anyway, we know how dangerous our local neighbourhood can be. We also know how fragile our ecosystem is and how tenuous species' grip on existence can be - consider that something like 99% of all species ever to exist have died out as a result of multiple mass extinction events. The KT asteroid was just one of them and we are the first species (presumably) to recognise the connection and to learn from it. To this end, all data is useful. True, we can't eat it, sell it or have sex with it, but knowing the exact circumstances of these sort of events might just come in handy one day.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
