Nobody believes abortion is murder

Nobody believes abortion is murder
There was some recent tirade against abortion on here by a Christian which finished with the overused phrase 'abortion is murder.' Now maybe you hear this often but do the Christians who say it actually believe it? What type of moral cowards would they be if they lived in a country where millions of people are being murdered and the most they do about it is post outraged and poorly written messages on an online forum. Maybe they go to a picket once a month, but mostly they do nothing.

I'm not questioning that they believe abortion is immoral, but if they genuinely believed abortion was murder they would spend their lives trying to stop it. Instead they do what basically amounts to nothing. Why? Because deep down they know that a fetus doesn't have the value of a human being.

Well, that's because other people are spending their lives trying to stop it so they don't have to.

And one more interesting thing: In the vast majority of the developed world, abortion is not murder.

Let's look at the definition, courtesy of the OED:
the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another.

Let's ignoree the "human being," because, at this point, the personhood of the fetus is irrelevant. What is relevant is the second word: "Unlawful."

And let's look at the legal status of abortion around the world. Here are a list of countries where it is legal on demand:
Albania, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Cape Verde, China, Croatia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Guyana, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nepal, Netherlands, North Korea, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia,Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikstan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uruguay, USA, Uzbekistan, Vietnam

In these countries, abortion is unequivocally legal and thus, not unlawful, and, therefore, not murder.

What's that? You say it's illegal under God's law? Well, God doesn't seem to have ever enforced this law, and a law that's never been enforced is no law at all.

Before you think that you can make a joke out of the fact that I posted "A human embryo developes gills at a stage" read this:

I learned about this in highschool, when I was 13. yes, a human embryo developes gills in the erly stages, which is a remenance of our past and easily explainable with evolution.

So are you, so are we all. That would be a weak argument for the disparity in treatment.

Yes I am. As long as you and others spout off these wive's tales as science, I'll be laughing.
So far in this thread we have already had one person deny or attempt to diminish the fact that an embryo at any stage of developement is an individual human being...

Quote:Let's ignoree the "human being," because, at this point, the personhood of the fetus is irrelevant....
Let's not ignore basic biology and deal with reality. If it wasn't a human being, there wouldn't be a need to establish "personhood".

It's an individual human, not a fish, not a salamander. It has full life, not a portion of life and believe it or not, it's an Actual Human™

Are you seriously saying that at one point in human embryo development, it's a fish? Really?
