A well, I'm off to sleep. This thread was fun surprisingly, although, abortions do hurt me when I think about it.

Sigh, no dissonance is required. The reason that the language used is so specific is because the people who use it in their capacity as arbitrators of law take the whole thing very seriously. We can add a "hence", if it helps us to understand it, or if it helps us to discuss it. We can do this in the same way that the claimants in gay rights appeals call a law, on the books, and upheld by the courts "unlawful" when it is not. That doesn't mean the hence is there in the ruling. This can't be that difficult to understand?
Again, none of this is an anti-abortion argument, which is what I very distinctly remember Cat claiming to have. Something relevant, along these lines, that would support his argument. At this point, it's looking like it was just his exit route.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I don't care what the status of the legality of abortion is, people can and do believe abortion is murder. Now maybe you hear this often but do the Christians who say it actually believe it? What type of moral cowards would they be if they lived in a country where millions of people are being murdered and the most they do about it is post outraged and poorly written messages on an online forum. Maybe they go to a picket once a month, but mostly they do nothing. It's the ones who DO believe "abortion is murder" that are the scary ones! These are the abortion doctor murderers and other Christian terrorists.

All well and good, but it isn't, and peoples beliefs won't make it so...which was probably explained to you just about immediately, right? Murder...Cat -is- a legal classification (for a particular type of -unlawful- killing..see..that's how that word is used), by calling something murder - you are very much concerning yourself with status of that things legality.

Holy shit dude, why can you see how fucked up that argument is? You and your legal status bullshit line of argument. From this can I conclude that you would accept abortions, that it is only the state's definition that is bothersome? Just like gay marriage, a proper Christian like yourself, would embrace a more humane attitude towards abortion. Live and let live? Turn the other cheek? Judge not? Oh, wait. That's what Christ taught, not what is expected of 21st century Christians.
Of course you use legal status to determine lawfulness. Something that is unlawful is something that is illegal, by definition. What is fucked up is that you cannot comprehend that.

I can understand if someone considers abortion to be sinful or immoral depending on his or her religious point of view, but murder? No.
Yes, 'murder' is a word used to make this emotional. What is actually being discussed is ethical correctness. With 'murder' in the discussion title you know where it's headed.
