Has atheism made you different?

RE: Has atheism made you different?
I'm being lazy and not bothering to see if anyone else has covered the points I'm about to make so I might be repeating someone elses points.

But whether or not atheism changes you pretty much depends on which gods you aren't following.

For a guy who is an african warlord Christianity might make you less aggressive, it didn't work for joseph kony but there's a guy called general butt naked who I think became more peaceful after converting, but then if I would have converted to worshiping the aztec god and be forced to kill a human to appease the gods, or someone like mars the god of war then this would make me more aggressive I imagine.

Atheism might have resulted in me having more sex but then if I would have joined a little cult somewhere, or a big cult like the mormon or Islamic religion, I might be getting more sex, I might have 4 or 5 or 6 wives.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Hey now, you can be an atheist polyamorist just as easily, you know. All it takes is likeminded people.

I know this from experience. Wink

Haha ok I don't know if you're saying this to be informative or just to brag that you get a hell of a lot of sex.
But basically I was just meaning that being an atheist is not believing in any religion, and there could be a religion for any action I take since they are all made up from imagination anyway. I could go out into the street smoke weed, kill some prostitutes, eat one of their unborn children, donate 10 000 pounds or dollers to charity then go and commit suicide all in the name of a god I imagined.
I could do this as an atheist, it wouldn't change my life.

I think the question works more on specific religions because of the fact you could say to a muslim has being a muslim effected your life because a lot of muslims don't believe in insurance, music , homosexuality being a natural occurrence and so on.
Even in this instance it may be a wrong question to ask because some muslims are homosexuals, and some don't believe music is wrong or insurance but it is much more likely they do believe these things are wrong and a more relevant question to ask.

Another theist trying to put his definition of atheism on atheist. Again. As if we've never heard of these same arguments before. Very clever! He's got us. We are all truly believers, we just didn't understand until he has shown us the way to true atheism.

Blah!

It would help if someone defined what a god is, or, specifically, what god someone believes in order to reject.

Dawud, assuming, again, that you're not a POE, this video may reveal some insights into our 'beliefs' (or lack thereof):

It's a "moot" point. Moot.

That irritates me whenever I see that.

I feel better now.

But can a point be deaf without being politically incorrect?

You are LYING when you assert anyone here is saying that.

You are lying when you say people who your nonsense conjecture for absence of evidence are saying anything about a negative belief.

You are lying when you pretend you cannot tell the difference between those two statements OR you really are not bright enough to understand the difference.

RE: Has atheism made you different?
Seriously - Rhythm said he was gnostic in certain aspects of his atheism:

He claimed to in some way know that there was no God.

I'm sure there are plenty of people here who will claim to know that there is no God.

I'm just saying that most people believe their knowledge and that there are plenty of people here who I am sure that are happy to say they believe and know there is no God.

The reson I'm trying to get this accross is because I'm trying to get Rhythm to clarify his assertion that atheism cannot affect people's lives.

I say atheism can affect people's lives and I'm sure plenty of people would agree with me.

The problem is that you keep assuming I'm trying to undermine atheism when I'm not - I understand that to approach God philosophically it is fair to be agnostic and claim to not start with an assumption either way. I actually applaud this consistency...

I think that atheism can affect people's lives - Im convinced of it. Rhythm has just been squirming around because he/she just won't agree with me...

Can atheism affect people's lives? I'm pretty sure it can (doesn't mean I'm saying its bad or good or anything like that).

Please try to drop the prejudice that somehow I am an enemy....

Just because someone holds a different stance regarding God doesn't mean that they are just going to attack you!

You asked "has atheism made you different?"

If someone was a theist, and then deconverted, then yes. If someone was always an atheist, then it's perfectly legitimate to say "no, it hasn't changed me."

The problem seems to come from you insisting that it does regardless.
