Why the bible cannot be trusted?

Why the bible cannot be trusted?
Most Christians claim that the bible is the word of God!

Dr. W. Graham Scroggie of the MOODY BIBLE INSTITUTE, Chicago, one of the most prestigious Christian Evangelical Mission in the world, answering the question — "Is the Bible the Word of God?"
(also the title of his book), under the heading: IT IS HUMAN, YET DIVINE.
He says on page 17: "Yes, the Bible is human, though some, out of zeal which is not according to knowledge,
1 have denied this. Those books
2 have passed through the minds of men, are written in the language of men , were penned by the hands of men, and bear in their style the characteristics of men.".

The Bible itself doesn't say that, it is very clear that the bible (each one) is words of a witness or a historian who is writing about "the word of God"
Mathew, Luke, etc.

As it is human work, it has errors like

II CHRONICLES 36
9. Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.

II KINGS 24
8. Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mothers name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.

Was he 18 or 8? either one of these statement is wrong or both are!

II CHRONICLES CHAPTER 9
25. And Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and welve thousand horsemen; whom he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.
I KINGS CHAPTER 4
26 And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.

was it 40 or 4 thousand?????

There is no need to bring other errors, I can give 100s of errors like that!

The sad part is his religion is younger than the Bible.

The Quran came after the Bible. That is HISTORICAL fact.

Both books are fairy tales.

Well Muslim Scholar, since you didn't watch the video I posted before, here it is again:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftHecLxquCg

It also serves as a reponse to Rayaan regarding the number of textual variants (now estimated to be around 40,000).
Quote:The Bible itself doesn't say that, it is very clear that the bible (each one) is words of a witness or a historian who is writing about "the word of God"
Mathew, Luke, etc.
The Bible does cite itself as scripture many times. Here's an example:
  • 1 Timothy 5:18: For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” [Deuteronomy 25:4] and, “The labourer deserves his wages.” [Luke 10:7]
It makes a good example since it's the New Testament citing both the Old and New Testament as scripture...

Oh, and as far as your numbers are concerned - we already know some of the numbers in the Bible are wrong. All that means is that there's a few isolated errors here and there, it's barely significant. I mean it's not like having a contradicting account or something.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke

Thanks for the sincerity!
Before we go to other major fallacies.

Now, how do you know that other "Major" statements in the bible are true or false?

This is an endless debate between Christians and critics of Christianity. Do you have anything new to offer, or are you just going to rehash an already tired debate?

You do realize that undermining the validity of the bible undermines the validity of Islam and the Quran, don't you?

If the Quran is the word of God than God is a dumbfuck who doesn't understand linguistics, specifically that languages change over time. Why reveal something in a language that nobody is going to use in 1000 years. It doesn't make any sense. Also we'll talk about what we want to since your obvious implication is that the Quran is the word of God.

You aren't going to find atheists here who are going to defend the bible as historical fact (though you'll find Christians who do). So why not discuss your views as to what makes the Quran so different from the bible? Why do you accept the Quran as the word of Allah, when you so easily dismiss the bible? It's the same stuff, just different authors and a slightly more recent timeframe, but still written by men, who are inherantly flawed. The interesting subject is why you believe the Quran...

P.S. I get the feeling you have a list of points you want to make, you write a post with a few of these items, and expect people to answer your posts, only to give them your prepared answers... It feels forced and ingenuine. Like you're trying to drag a dog on a leash. Just say what you want to say and respond to other's responses. Get to the point, why drag it out? For dramatic effect? I find it annoying.

The bible is a compendium of a number of various FICTIONAL works of Unknown authors. THAT is not in question at all. EVEN the xtians accept that - when they identify Parables - which ARE fictional stories that make a moral argument. Of course - NOT all of the arguments of the bible fictions are moral - the MURDERS of children in the Passover - and the Great Flood being among the worst.

Over the centuries - the bible has been proven to be WRONG on a number of things BY Science - and every day - more and more of the bible falls into the category of MYTH and LEGEND. Virtually all of the early Old Testament - through moses - is.

Certainly genesis is a fairy tale - and it cannot even get a straight story. THe Great Flood never happened - nor did the Tower of Babel. Certainly the EVOLUTION of the universe did not happen in the order mentioned in genesis - nor did it happen in the timeline in genesis.

Jericho did not exist at the time of that story - and the jews were not in bondage to Egypt (Likely Babylonia) at that time in the bible.

THere is enough wrong with the NEW TESTAMENT in its depiction of jewish law alone to designate it as having been written later by non-jews.
And of course - Roman law is also completely ignored in the lack of reality of the death of the christ myth. THERE is not a single document that can be dated to the supposed time of the christ that even mentions his name - although he is claimed to have done AMAZING things.

Once need only read the first chapter of the bible to know that the bible is a fiction - and most xtians have never even read the entire bible, Studies have shown that it is non-believers who are more likley to know what is in the bible actually.

And that is the point - Non-believers do not need to say anything much beyond on thing to people who question them - tell them simply to READ THE WHOLE bible - from page one. Any intelligent and reasoning person can see it is nonsense- contradicts itself , has atrocious actions of the god and the people - and is morally contemptible in lots of ways.

Those that quote the bible are quoting OUT OF CONTEXT of the whole bible and generally ignore lots of things that they would NOT accept to be part of their religion.

THAT The christ not only accepted slavery -= but left instruction for slaves on how they should obey their masters alone is but ONE example.

THat the christ (In 1Timothy 2) - condemns WOMEN to a life of childbearing - and being submissive to be saved - and would NOT allow a woman to have ANY power over a man - is another.

However - the claim that the christ was a god made human is also directly contradicted in the bible as well - as JOHN says - no man has seen god - what was the christ AFTER the resurrection? (Hint - still a fictional non-entity)
