Debating the existence of Jesus

You know I hear about those guys all the time but I'm not sure where they came from. I never once heard a Baptist preacher teach stuff like Young Earth Creationism, or denounce Evolution, or anything like that. I grew up going to church three times every week and always believed in Evolution and all that humanity was learning from Science.

I mean Baptist churches are fairly autonomous. They only share between them the basic tenets of the Baptist faith. But in all the various preachers I encountered over all those years, I never ran into one preaching YEC nonsense.

So I don't know where those guys come from. When I much later found out that my mom didn't believe in evolution it came as a complete shock to me.

Look harder, mon ami.

Quote:Mac Brunson, pastor of First Baptist Church, told the Florida Baptist Witness the Bible’s account of creation is critical for children to know in order to counter the “humanistic worldview message that you evolved from some type of lower animal which evolved from some molecule swimming around in a mud puddle somewhere.”

They are out there. Granted they spend more time waiting to be raptured so they can suck jesus' cock for eternity while they watch all their enemies writhe in the flames of hell. In that, they are a fairly despicable bunch. Much like catholics.

I know they're out there.

I just never came across one preaching about those kinds of things the entire time I was growing up. And we had multiple preachers over those years.

One time when I was a teenager my dad made a passing statement saying he didn't believe in evolution but my dad has an odd sense of humor. He's funny as crap when he wants to be but he doesn't talk all that much.

I took it from him as a jest.

Example of my dad's sense of humor. One day he told me this out of nowhere.

Dad: You know, I remember sitting in the backyard one time way back when eating dirt.

Me laughing: Eating dirt? Why were you eating dirt?

Dad deadpan: I was hungry.

Me still laughing: How old were you?

Dad: 18.

I suppose you could hunt this guy down and beat it out of him....

Quote:I. Biblical Authority

Example Verses: II Timothy 3:16-17; I Peter 1:23-25

Baptists hold to the belief that the Bible and its clear, literal teachings are the final authority for faith and practice. We at least attempt to back up everything we believe with "Chapter and Verse", and hold that anything that is contrary to the clear teaching of the Bible is not true. Such things as church councils, church leaders, tradition, and other books are often held in some authority by other Christian groups.

I regard these people as flat out fucking stupid.

Yeah, being spoon fed Christianity from birth must have been a real challenge for your superior intellect.

The Bible ain't proof.

I was raised in Church. Sunday morning, Sunday evening, Wednesday evening for 20 years. I have a leather bound bible with my name embossed on the front in gold gilt. And I've got it heavily footnoted in my own handwriting from back when I took it for granted with no evidence.

I had a reputation in the military for having a very good knowledge of that book of fairy tales.

My statement still stands if you want to know search scripture, your claims are just that claims, you need to give proof of what you say about yourself.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

*grins* You claim that the bible is evidence. I've never seen anyone prove in the slightest that the bible is anything more than ancient myths, analogies, and conflicting babble by stone age, ignorant scribes.

There are verses that says insects have 4 legs, that bats are birds, and mentions a talking snake and a talking donkey. Is this the literal word of an all-knowing god? heh. Fundy, please.

Until you can offer some proof that the bible is worth anything more than any other ancient religious text you might as well use a Winnie the Pooh book to try and prove bears talk.

If you want to use the bible as evidence to debate the specifics for what to believe about a myth, ok we can discuss that, as long as we do so in the clear understanding that we are discussing myths.

You are basing all your evidence on the existence of the Bible. I can call out to you to look over your shoulder that there is an invisible unicorn there, but you shouldn't believe me just on my word.

So then, why do we need to read the Bible at all? We all know that it professes Jesus lived, died, and was resurrected. Milla Jovovich lived, died, was resurrected, then cloned, got superpowers, lost her superpowers, got her superpowers back, and then some in all the Resident Evil movies. What makes that any different from an unverifiable book written 2000 years ago by anonymous authors that didn't personally know Jesus? And if Saul/Paul of Tarsus is proof of someone personally knowing Jesus, then if I run across the spirit of Johnny Cochrane, I guess I should follow his diabolical ways, right?

Again...why bring up the Bible at all? As evidenced above, its existence is not proof of Jesus. Why does it matter if he existed or not? Why do you think, outside of the Bible itself, that he existed?

If your desire is to believe it's a myth, then that's what you will do, for me it's true all of it, so I guess that leaves you out of anything I debate about scripture since you want debate unless I agree with you it's a myth. Why is it that what you say sounds so familiar, communism comes to mind.

You mean to tell me you do not know the Bible exists...well, no need to say anything else.
