Using the trash can of bad claims is not "closing the door" anymore than giving up on Santa means you are close minded.
That is why I call myself "agnostic" about the future. But that does not mean I have to cling to traditions or myths or superstitions that have no evidence.
Monkeys "might" fly out of my butt, but I am not going to waste time on bullshit.
Being open minded about what future evidence humanity might find does not, nor should include clinging to the reflections of childish egos.

Astute observation by a non scientist. Bill had no clue how lucky that guess was.
The planet and sun are "terminal" as well. These will die too and the universe will continue on without us and no record of us.
Humans make up gods as an anthropomorphic reflection of the word "special". If biological life did not have the evolutionary drive to "survive" we would not have that feeling of "special" and we would not evolve. We have yet come close as a species to understand our own childish psychology that concocts these superstitions.
So the universe of "us" is not everlasting and past-eternal? No other parallel space/time dimensions?
Singularities like big bangs and death/conception never happen?
No black holes or birth canals into new realms of consciousness/existence?
Boy, that whole dark energy, quantum spookiness thing was a big let-down.
Question:
What is it about you that you think worth retaining by the universe beyond your life-span down here on earth?
The raw materials that make you will probably become, in huge time, part of another star system but that's about it.

Yep, it was from Tom Baker's swansong Logopolis. Even if I did misspell 'attend'.
Good thing I still have those discs of the Tom Baker years dubbed off the SyFy channel.

Given the existence of heaven and hell, it stands to reason that NOT EVERYONE shares the same existential boarding pass and seat allocation.
This is simple logic- not apologetics.
No it's not EVEN apologetics, as a Freshman in Babble school would know Sheol is/was not hell, and ALL Hebrew in the Babble went to the SAME place.
It's also not "logic", as there is no mechanism for post-mortem preservation, nor have you ever proposed one or explained how it could/would work.
What it is though, is wishful thinking, by a coward that can't accept human mortality.
However is also philosophical bullshit. What humans perceive as "logical" has been proven to be unreliable. One needs EVIDENCE. You have none.

Just out of interest, if you had to choose between eternal life (with God) and eternal death/hell, which would it be?

Here is a description of hell from the Bible.
Revelation 14:11
And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Ooooh I want to play too.
Bucky,
If you had to choose between eternal life at Candyland or eternal life at Bikini Bottoms with Spongebob and Patrick, which would you choose?
Here's a description of candyland:
"Candy Land," where a gingerbread boy named Jib, as he travels the Rainbow Road in search of the annual Sweet Celebration only to discover that the nefarious Lord Licorice has hatched a plan to turn the brightly colored land into a licorice-hued expanse. Now it's up to Jib and his friends Mister Mint and Princess Frostine to foil the villain's dastardly plot and save the citizens of Candy Land from certain drabness. (IMDB)

Oh for fuck's sake, make it a choice that is difficult- an eternity in the Playboy Mansion, or an eternity at the Spearmint Rhino?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

And here are MORE quotes from Revelation
An angel threw the censer down to earth, causing thunder, lightning, and earthquakes. 8:5
"I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth." 9:1
"And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth...." To John, the stars are just little lights a few miles away that can easily fall to the earth. 6:13
John "saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth. 7:1
Well, I guess that settles it: the earth is flat and square-shaped, or at least quadrilateral in shape. Stars fall to earth on a regular basis - and ANGELS cause thunder - lightning - and eathquakes too!!!!!!!!!
When does a SENTIENT person accept that these stories are MYTHS and LEGENDS - when they actually READ the whole bible
The bible makes absolutely NO sense if you actually read the whole thing. THe problem with the theists - is that they are cherry picking and creating a belief system based on what PARTS of the bible they consider useful.
