Federal Government Shutdown

RE: Federal Government Shutdown
I just read this

"Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.) said this week that there is no way he's giving up his salary during the government shutdown."

pretty much what you would expect.
I think you are right Min the rep have painted themselves into a corner but like a car accident I am curious to see how this plays out.

In fairness, it wasn't their fault. The GOP pushed the button. They alone are responsible for the results.

Honest people will admit both sides are at fault. This was not the moment to go at Obamacare again, so the GOP was at fault for that. Now Obama and Reid refuse to give an inch and publicly admit that it is their way or nothing. Both sides are acting like children.

But both sides aren't at fault.

The GOP is way out of line for demanding that we toss out the democratic process and legislate by hostage taking and extortion. Obamacare was passed by both houses, signed by the president, upheld by the supreme court and validated by a landslide election of the sitting president in a campaign where Obamacare was one of the biggest issues. We won. They lost.

Didn't you see that Schoolhouse Rock video, "I'm Just a Bill"?

Here's your remedial civics education:

No part of this video talks about economic extortion by the Congress if the opposition party decides they don't like an implemented law.

Now they've decided that since they can't win by democratic means, they'll resort to extortion and economic terrorism. No, you can't do that! And it sets a bad precedent if it's allowed to happen!

1. The Republicans pressed the button.
2. The Republicans are way out of line.
3. The Congress is not doing its job in passing a budget.

100% of the credit credit goes to the GOP, no ifs, ands or buts.

GOP: How about this?
D: Nope.
GOP: OK, what about this?
D: Nope.

All of the fuckers are responsible, but guess what? Many of them are just doing what their constituents voted for. The tea party people were voted into office by those who wanted TP ideals. The Dems likewise. If you don't like the results you'll have to change government to get rid of checks & balances.

"How about this?"

More like "defund Obamacare in spite of the vote-spoken desires of the American people or we're shutting everything down."

They've done this "WE'RE GONNA SHUT IT DOWN" shit three fucking times now, and the only reason they are actually doing it this time is because this time the democrats realized that the Geriatrics On Parade aren't going to extend the courtesy of returning the favor on compromising just because the democrats work with them.

You don't say the person holding the gun at the other person was just as responsible for the outcome as the guy who was having the gun pointed at him was. Especially not if the guy had the gun instead turned and shot everyone else in the room. Maybe the democrats have SOME kind of part in this, except that the guy with the gun has threatened to shoot them all before if his demands weren't met.

Maybe now the "police," in this case the American people, AKA the voters, will do something about this gunman, seeing as he has now opened fire.

Who made the shutdown? The GOP.

They point a gun towards the federal governments head and say "Allow us to pass this anti-ACA law or else!"

No such way that can be anything else but a hostage negotiation.

President Obama and the Democrats oughta expose this farce. We do not negotiate under threat of disabling the US federal government.

The line has been crossed and it is wrong to humor this tactic lest we encourage it.

What "inch" shall they give? The only "inch" the Tea Baggers will accept is defunding of Obamacare. The President has said that is non-negotiable, given that it IS the law of the land, passed by both houses of Congress, reviewed and affirmed by the Supreme Court as Constitutional.

The Republicans have chosen to take the American public as hostage in order to defund what is already settled law. The Republicans own this one, and everyone who follows politics even peripherally knows it.

They act like they're attempting to sit down and negotiate over a bill, rather than a settled law. It's a ruse, and most see through it.

RE: Federal Government Shutdown
All of you are focusing on the defunding issue. The GOP gave up on that on the first round. Have none of you haggled? You go to the extreme on the first round and then work down. It finally came down to evening out the delay for mandate, and exempting the medical device tax. Had the GOP stuck with defunding you'd have a case, but none of you do because it was ruled out almost immediately. The last offer was about the individual mandate, because Obama decided to give a delay to businesses and leave the individuals high and dry. He's all about special interests (big business = big money), just like what many of you want to accuse the GOP of.

Last offer before shutdown was not defunding. Stop acting as if it was. So to refuse to budge at all -- particularly when Obama has personally changed the law with executive orders -- is what puts some of the blame back on this president and Harry Reid.
