Maybe People Should Not Look Up To YouTube Atheist

Maybe People Should Not Look Up To YouTube Atheist
I have problems with the whole concept of celebrity in general. And believe me, when it comes to the concept of internet celebrity, I am down right disappointed in our internet humanity. No one should be an internet celebrity anymore than Paris Hilton and her ilk should be celebrities IRL.

But, many of us who are not believers in the ultimate fictional celebrity tend to quote, get information from and adopt the mindsets of many who we perceive as like-minded on the internet.

One particular individual who comes to mind is a neck-bearded misogynist who calls himself The Amazing Atheist, in one thread I created on misogyny, certain individuals cited him as if he were some sort of person that I maybe should pay heed to. But if you knew the history of TJ and for that matter Thunderf00t, I highly doubt that anyone would ever tempt to do that again.

The Amazing Atheist, if you check out his YouTube channel seems to have put discussing atheism on the backburner and has been taking more time ranting about the evils of women. And I find it disgusting.

His rants on how women and particularly feminist women are evil are no more legitimate than any given racist ranting about about Asians, African Americans or Hispanics on YouTube.

Yet some of us seem to think that it is a-ok to recommend or promote this guy. so I am going to ask you Amazing Atheist fans a question: Would you promote or recommend a racist if you felt that that racist was a like minded atheist?

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Also worth noting, as abrasive as TJ may be, he's infinately less annoying than the train-wreck that makes up the core membership of Freethought Blogs. If he's being attacked for disagreeing with them, you'd have to attack me, too; I think they're full of shit.

Quote: in one thread I created on misogyny, certain individuals cited him as if he were some sort of person that I maybe should pay heed to.

This is the fifth thread that you have made according to your profile.
Looking at the other 4 threads you have made:
Women's rights and religion: http://atheistforums.org/thread-22204.html
Evolution, intelligence, suggestibility and religion: http://atheistforums.org/thread-22042.html
The men's rights movement: I just don't get it: http://atheistforums.org/thread-21853.html
Introduction: because everyone is doing it and I feel peer presured: http://atheistforums.org/thread-21852-page-3.html

The only video I could find linked was on page 5 of women's right's and religion, a theramin trees/qualiasoup video linked by Fidel Castronaut.
A command-F search on each page for the word "amazing" also revealed no links or mentions of the amazing atheist.

Now, either it was threads you didn't make and you're mistaken, or you're talking out your ass.

I'll save you the bother of godwining this thread as you did in the very first post in that men's rights movement thread and just call everybody a nazi now, so we can move on.

Second: Arguing against aspects of feminism or feminists (unless it's the first wave suffrage issue or something) hardly makes one a misogynist. Is he saying women are evil, or that feminists are? I want to see the evidence of the thoughtcrime before I get my torch & pitchfork out, unpersoning somebody based on your say-so bellyfeels doubleplusungood to me.

Third: This alleged linking to the amazing atheist, which wasn't in your thread as we've already established, provide the link please. You've already called people out, you may as well link to it so that others can judge the merits of your argument. I want to see if the next part of this sentence is any more truthful or accurate that the last:
Quote:... certain individuals cited him as if he were some sort of person that I maybe should pay heed to

Fourth: Argumentum ad hominem. The arguments presented in the videos people link stand or fall on their own merits. Other things the person has said are largely irrelevant, and without the link to the post I can't know if the person has linked the video by itself or said "boy, this guy is amazing and I agree 100% with everything he has every posted on youtube, heres an example of his amazingness"
Nemo me impune lacessit.

The reason I recommend him is because he is right, I don't care how rude he is. He displays groups like 'tumblr' feminists for what they really are

It's funny how you equate radical feminism (men are inferior to women and should have less rights, which TJ is arguing against in his videos on the subject) with women who believe in equal gender rights.

Is that to me or the OP?

I don't remember it written in the atheist contract anywhere (you know, the one we all had to sign in virgin's blood) that we had to follow and agree 100% with every other atheist, 100% of the time. The history of this very forum is limb-scarred testimony to the near impossibility of herding the atheist cats.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I listen a lot to TJ, not by my own free will, but because Scruffy's a fan. And I have to say, not once when TJ has opened is mouth about feminists, have I as a woman, felt the misogyny oozing from him. He (and Thunderf00t for that matter) talk about things that are taboo at the moment, and just because you feel uncomfortable that they expose feminazism for what it is, it doesn't mean that they hate every single woman. I can't stand feminists who are assured that being a woman is the superior sex and no one is supposed to disagree, because voilá!, it makes you automatically a misogynist. No, TJ calling people out on their bullshit is worthy of applause, because that's true equality, the lack of fear for reprimanding a fault, without a care for political correctness.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Yeah, this is why I tend to champion positions, and not people. People are just collections of viewpoints, some of which I'll agree with, and some I won't, that's kind of what you'd expect from humans interacting with one another. If I like a person's work enough to recommend them, I'm still not obligated to agree with every position they have, no matter how glowing I've been with my praise for them in the past. Nor am I required to abandon their work entirely the minute they profess a position that disagrees with my sensibilities- though it's wise to keep that position in mind so as to track how it might affect their other positions later on.
