Christians - Should it be legal to own slaves since God approves?
January 30, 2014 at 10:11 am
Leviticus Chapter 25, verse 44
Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.
- So with the exception of taking the chosen ones as slaves it is permitted in the eyes of your God. No?

Slavery is definitely bad, though the relationship with Yahweh is much like slavery, so of course he wouldn't want to abolish it. You talk about a guy that threatens you with eternal suffering if you don't live your life exactly how he wants. One step out of line, and you're a sinner who deserves torture for choosing to be your own person.

Just remember that Drippy or G-C will be along to tell you that their godboy fulfilled all the parts of the OT - even though he said he didn't - that cover shit like this. For some reason the only part that is still in force is the bit about queers.
They will have to explain that one to you. It's beyond my poor powers.

Jesus didn't say anything about abolishing slavery either. All he said was for slaves to be good to their masters.

As I said, it shouldn't be surprising when the leader is likened to a shepherd, and his followers a flock of sheep. Individuality and free thinking isn't exactly encouraged.

That's only for Hebrew slaves. Hebrew slaves were treated better than foreign slaves.
Hebrew slaves were only to be kept for 7 years, then set free, UNLESS you found them a wife. If they decided they wanted to stay with the wife, then you were to pierce their ear with awl., and they would become your permanent property.
With slaves from foreign lands, all bets were off.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
