Do you blame him? All you have to do to get elected in the south is talk about how big your hard-on for Jesus is, and he's just pandering to the idiots.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Why don't Christian Democrats try to push their Christian values on people like the Christian Republicans do?
Good question.
Probably has something to do with the make-up of the electorate.
I'm just wondering why they would compromise their values if they are actually Christians.
We need an Atheist party. (February 27, 2014 at 7:50 pm)KUSA Wrote: I'm just wondering why they would compromise their values if they are actually Christians. I suspect lots of both parties are Atheists, they are politicians though, which makes them a bunch of cunts.

Since atheism doesn't have a core of shared values, aside from reason and skepticism, I have no idea what such a party would be. There are atheists who span the political spectrum. In any case, an atheist party is a non-starter and would be less welcome than a New Kids on the Block reunion tour. However, your earlier question about why liberal Christians aren't as aggressive in pushing their agenda as conservative Christians is a good one. I don't know the answer. Perhaps they aren't as motivated because they don't self-generate the constant state of crisis and sense of persecution that their conservative counterparts do. Rather than waste time and resources tilting at windmills -- as an atheist party would be -- I suggest that we secular folk (the liberals and progressives among us in this case) be more aggressive in lining up with more liberal religious people who may share our long term goals. After all, the civil rights movement was composed of a variety of people, from Christians to liberals to communists. As a matter of intellectual integrity, I oppose Christianity across the board. However, as a matter of practical politics and expediency, I am prepared to do what is necessary to advance important interests. And if, along the way, common cause between secular people and more liberal religionists can be used to drive a fatal wedge between the conservative and liberal wings of Christianity, Islam, etc. so much the better. Quote:Voters in Georgia should send Rep. Paul Broun to the U.S. Senate because he will only vote in favor of legislation that is based on Christian values, the Republican candidate said Saturday.Sooo... repeal the 19th amendment and reinstate slavery?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
