JL1, you clearly are smart enough to understand what Dawkins has to say. Either that or you are slowly trying to shed the poe and honestly join this forum. Either way, take a break and do it in smaller bits. If you get easily overwhelmed, don't bite off more than you can chew. Also, watch Cosmos this Sunday. It's on Fox, and it's going to be awesome, and should explain the current cosmological model in layman's terms.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Despite all the ununderstandable scientific jibberish, Dawkins really just doesn't know how something could come from nothing.

Quite true. He even says as much.
However, in the absence of such knowledge he does not infer God as an alternative.

Not a scientific concept. It's a religious one. Your deity and how he supposedly *poofed* everything into existence.
And "god is eternal* is not an acceptable counter-argument

It's not clear whether there is a need to explain how something came from nothing, since sth coming from sth are intuitions gained from observing the macroscopic world around us. It is a concept which barely applies in our universe, and is probably not meaningful outside of spacetime at all.

I admire books that discuss the philosophy behind atheism/agnosticism, but in truth? No one needs to ''make a case'' for atheism. Atheism might seem like a response to theism, but in reality...it just is. It is our most natural state. Creating and concocting gods throughout the centuries, requires a lot of energy that could be going to build a better reality, instead of an unnecessary fantasy. Creating gods as to estalish a 'new reality,' to me, is living a fake life. Living a life that doesn't seem authentic. That seems 'put on.' Which is why so many religious folks talk out of both sides of their mouths. You'll see them drunk driving, yet scolding a homosexual for 'sexually sinning.' They think we are lost, they are the lost ones.
That is what atheism IS--living in the now, and building a better reality. You could be completely illiterate, and be capable of being a useful component of helping to build a better reality. All atheism requires is for a person to be him/herself, living authentically. As we all should be.

That's because the properties of Nothing are not clearly understood. It's hard to even conceive of a state where there is Nothing. The interesting thing is that there are voids of Nothing up to 100 billion light years in size in our visible universe. What we don't know is what is happening in them.

Quite true. He even says as much.
However, in the absence of such knowledge he does not infer God as an alternative. You're right, but with all the learned people attesting to experiences with a god throught human history, it leaves it open for consideration.
