I was brought up mostly by foster care and group homes I spent about 4 years of my childhood with my biological mother. I reconnected with her as a young teen but I did not expect any perfection. Oh and in case you are wondering, my father abandoned my mother and I about three months before I was born. I don't think your upbringing is as relevant to your religious or non-religious beliefs later in life. Not everyone takes the same path in life and reach the same conclusions.
