Actually there is something wrong with being a one issue voter. You, are in effect voting against the well being of this country because you are a "one" issue voter.

What am I? Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or Independent?

Would you have voted for a Nazi platform that included slaughtering the Jews even if you wholeheartedly agreed with the rest of the platform(hypothetically speaking)? Somehow I doubt you would even though you profess disdain for one issue voters. Some issues require unwavering opposition despite extraneous circumstances. For me Abortion is one of those issues. There is nothing wrong with being a one issue voter. How many children go hungry because of people who vote for the rights of fetuses? How many abortions happen because of Republican policies that limit access to contraception? Because of Republican policies that exacerbate poverty? Because of Republican policies that oppose intelligent sex education in schools? Do you ever stop and think about these things? You probably buy the line that people like me want as many abortions to happen as possible, but that couldn't be further from the truth. People like me recognize the right of a woman to abort. We also advocate social and economic policies to remove as much of the incentive as we can. You can advocate criminalizing abortion, which just forces it back to the coathanger in the alley, or you can actually do something to help make abortions as unnecessary as possible. If you really care about the lives of these unborn children, you should seek to learn the nuances, and the unintended consequences, of your position. And then you should make a change, because your votes are doing nothing but worsening the problem. RE: What am I? Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or Independent?

Texas has recently passed laws to eliminate planned parenthood. Planned parenthood that has led to lower numbers of abortions. The expected results is an increase of pregnancies and abortions. Higher incident's of health problems relating to abortions since they are now being done in Mexico or in the back alleys or self induced. Everything that republicans are suppose to be against. But I guess republicans will say they deserve it for their sin. But that is I guess where democrats have a lot more compassion then the "god" of the republicans.

While I agree that that is a foolish move, it is not the same as eliminating a private organization entirely. Stopping a holocaust which has killed 57 million human beings in this country since Roe v Wade is more important to me then any loss in the well being of this country that I can imagine happening because I voted for an otherwise crappy candidate. Like I said I think Obama is the worst president ever.....yet if he were prolife and Romney were pro choice(which he might be but that is another subject), then I would have voted for Obama. So much for that soul-searching you mentioned, I guess. Soul searching about whether I can be consistent and vote for someone who is not anti capital punishment.....not about whether I should give up my pro-life position. I find the pro-life position allows for a much more consistent world view. Consistency in my world view is very important to me.
Mind you don't lose sight of what Emerson had to say regarding consistency...

I find the pro-life position allows for a much more consistent world view. Consistency in my world view is very important to me. I wasn't asking you to give up your pro-life position. I was asking you to consider how pro-life you really are considering how Republican policies only ever exacerbate demand for abortions by keeping people impoverished, health care inaccessible and limiting access to contraceptives and family planning resources, and every vote you cast for one only makes worse the problem you want to solve. I was asking you to think about how many abortions you're really going to stop simply by voting to make the procedure illegal, as opposed to voting to alleviate the economic problems and social stigmas that overwhelmingly compel women to seek this option. Voting to kill human beings through capital punishment makes your position inconsistent, but that's far from the only consistency problem you have. You vote for people who advocate refusing to provide basic necessities to people who can't afford them, who deny affordable healthcare to millions of Americans, and who start wars that kill thousands of innocent people, just because you might save some fetuses (many of whom will grow up in poverty thanks in part to the votes you cast). This is about as magnificently inconsistent a position as I can imagine someone holding. From what I gather, you believe that life, and the rights accorded to the living, begin at conception and end at birth. |
