Abortion is morally wrong
RE: Abortion is morally wrong
Ras is drawing authority from -the- authority on the subject...that which is clearly delineated as a legal right. This is akin to asking someone what authority they have to call an argument irrational.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

You do realize rights differ with nation, right? Rights are not fixed in stone.

So maybe, there are no such thing as "made up rights".

You were the person who implied that rights of conscience should be subservient to other rights. If you can't think up a legitimate example for it, that's not my problem.

. . . .
If you think all types of rights are to be considered equal level, you think that isn't a dangerous thing to espouse? Yours is black and white thinking: it's either right or not. I find that more dangerous than what I believe in.

I believe I've asked how someone else's rights to live according to their conscience interferes with your rights. How might that occur? I'll grant as a given that one's right to swing one's fist ends at another's face. Please, let's have some examples where one person's exercise of right of conscience might interfere with another's rights.

You misunderstand. I leave what rights a person may have to the person claiming them. I don't know what rights you have - but I do know what rights my country, for example (The US) assigns to you. These are legal rights. Rights that aren't therein contained aren't "made up" they're just not "rights" in the way that we have conceptualized them.

I did. You reject it because it doesn't bode well with how you view rights.

Do you think it's ok for children to be indoctrinated with stuff about hell?

Are rights set in stone? Must rights only be rights if they are acknowledged in the present moment by the law of your nation?

I agree with you. I never restricted my argument on rights to legal rights.

The other side of the argument has restricted themselves - which is why you got the comment that you did. Get it now?

But that defeats the whole point of why we're arguing about what rights should matter. Do you see why they shouldn't be restricting it to just current legal rights?

Of course I do, and no, it doesn't defeat any point to arguing how rights that are contained within law rub up against each other, or how a specific approach to a right contained within law might not be suitable for some other right (or the insistence that the same approach be suitable to all rights).

Sigh.

Would it help if I mentioned that I, essentially, agree with your conclusions - just not the manner in which you've reached them? You aren't being challenged to defend your conclusions at present. It's the manner in which you got from a to b under review.

I don't think you're getting me. For example, is the right to save a child from drowning a legal right or a "made up right"? According to what nation? Cthulhu mentioned that one in his analogy (forgot the exact wording but it was something about that).
