Hi, Sionnach. Thank you for your candid post. I can't imagine (truly) what it is like to be habitually misunderstood and constantly be on the receiving end of the psychological projections of misguided theists (who probably mean well but can't deliver well). It is my hope that your above comments are an exaggerated expression of the frustration developed through many similar interactions. All I can do is say I'm sorry that others have caused you to feel that way.

Can't say I agree with him. Out of practical reasons. If religion were to vanish, other ideologies would fill the void, since all too many people need a crutch to get them through life.

So my opinion is, better the devil you know. As long as said devil keeps it's sticky fingers out of everyone's cookie jar. In short, I'm totally against religion having political influence. If you want to live your life according to some ancient text, be my guest, but don't try to force it down others throats.

I agree with the goal of eliminating all religion - especially the indoctrination of children. It's like fighting smallpox - the state needs to vaccinate all children through education. Schools should unashamedly promote atheism just as they unashamedly promote good nutrition. Many religious people will cling to their beliefs no matter what, so they should be treated kindly until they die of old age.

I'm sure I hate religion almost as much. I'd love to see it gone forever, but I feel that may be impossible and I wouldn't want to force people to believe or not believe what they want.

I want to see religion reduced to the level of other superstitions, so that it has no emotional hold over anyone and stops getting special treatment.

All this would take would be for indoctrination, which is as bad as child abuse IMO, to stop. Then it all comes down nicely.

They know they can't convince a free thinking adult with this shit (as evidenced on this forum) so they have to poison their minds when they are young and defenceless. Despicable.
