Hey I got one.

Why are us English such prudes? Is it a hangover from the Victorian era, like everything else?

I'm English, and not proud of it. I just happened to be born here. Which was lucky for me, there are far worse places.

Exactly the way I feel about being a Murican, still lucky in some ways but currently much less to be proud of.

I try not to be patriotic but can't really help it - i love our cynicism, our humour, the nhs, the bbc, i'm even patriotic about our lack of patriotism!

I've watched the Olympic opening ceremony about 7 times
“The larger the group, the more toxic, the more of your beauty as an individual you have to surrender for the sake of group thought. And when you suspend your individual beauty you also give up a lot of your humanity. You will do things in the name of a group that you would never do on your own. Injuring, hurting, killing, drinking are all part of it, because you've lost your identity, because you now owe your allegiance to this thing that's bigger than you are and that controls you.”  - George Carlin

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Wow, you guys are so exceptional.  I wish my imbred backwater would give up the provincialism they call patriotism.

RE: Ask an Englishman.
We still have patriotism but it comes out in short concentrated bursts, like when there's a royal wedding/baby/baby wedding or when an international football tournament is on; it's not inconceivable that we will one day start a war over the result of a World Cup game
