If it's evidence to him, and he's not shoving anything down anyone's throats, then why the need for hostility? Be kind to the newb, it's not easy coming in here as a theist.  Shy

What hostility? Where? Shoving down throats?

He says beliefs need to be based in reality, so there is no place for 'it's evidence to me' here, that's subjective. He claims he has evidence. We've expressed that we're interested in seeing it. I'm just saying if I hear another Kalam I'm gonna part with my lunch, cos that's been done to death so much I think it's necrophilia at this point

Just saying you could have a softer, kinder tone, that's all. Just MHO from one friend to another. Do what you will. Shy
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Right because heaven forbid you had to actually give them serious consideration or attempt to understand them (Aquinas and Anslem in particular). But I do agree, they have been done to death and your rejection of them now stands as a witness against you.

They boil down to these four fundamental questions; origin, meaning, morality and destiny. How did I come into being? What brings life meaning? How do I know right from wrong? Where am I headed after I die?

I believe that these are the invisible qualities of God that all man knows, whether answering those questions lead them to God is another story.

Dave, I accept your answer.
Mine would be just as honest.
All people do not gravitate towards an extremely hard to comprehend intangible concept as a "god" naturally.
Alot of childhood " conditioning" must occur first.

The amount of atheist adults that find god "on their own" is negligible. Imo.
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

My lack of belief costs me exactly 0 effort. It's deeply fascinating how NOT doing something, unlike the mental gymnastics, compartmentalization and double think maintaining belief requires can be so easy.

The cost could be high if you're wrong. If Christianity was as you described it would be troublesome, it's not, it's all good.

I know Christians with science degrees, working in the nuclear field and teaching in college, you should do a little rsearch before you make such claims.

Nor digging up poor old Pascal.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Tonus Wrote:Not all of us.  Most of us discuss the Christian religion because we live in communities or societies where that is the dominant religion, and it is the one we were most exposed to.  Someone in another part of the world may be much more conversant with Islam or other religions and would spend more time discussing those instead.

Yes I understand what you're saying, what I meant and thought was understood, were the atheist on this site, I do not talk to many atheist outside this forum anymore, I do not get out into the world as much since I'm not able to work at a regular job anymore, I miss work.

Tonus Wrote:In any case, none of us fight against any god.  To the believer it may seem that way, but my dismissal of Yahweh is not much different than your dismissal of any other mythical figure.

How can you know this for sure, like I said before if someone here claims to be an atheist yet has anger issues against any god their not going to admit it. I reject all other gods because they have been moved into the area of mythology by many people over many years. My God has not been put into the realm of mythology by except for those who refuse to believe in Him.

Tonus Wrote: If you rejected someone's claim that Yeti was real and he said you were "just angry at Yeti, so you struggle against him" you would (hopefully) laugh at him for claiming such a thing.

This is speculation, I wouldn't be involved in a discussion about Yeti, but for the discussion if I were I would not in any way act as many atheist here do. I would simply state I do not believe without the rants and ravings that go on here, I wouldn't insult the persons intelligence nor call that person a lunatic. I would more likely call a Christian crazy for an obviously bad interpretation of the Bible scriptures. Why exactly do you think I would laugh at him, I do not laugh at the atheist here.

Tonus Wrote: Even the people who seem to "hate god" are usually angry at other people, who they either abuse verbally or try to provoke by making claims about their beliefs and their gods.  For example, Minimalist has insulted god in pretty much every possible way on this discussion board.  Now ask yourself: how many times have theists responded to his rants, and how many times has god?

You nor Min or anyone else will ever convince me that he doesn't hate God, as far as God doing something, God will have His day of justice with him, I'm hoping that that justice will be seen through the blood of Christ, I have that hope for everyone here, I do care whether anyone here believes it. What I want do is be treated like a pile of crap an not speak up, that's just part of my nature and if people are offended by by boldness then they should think before they act. Again I appreciate the good conversation.
