I now doubt Randy's brain exists because of Randy.  Jesus can go fuck himself.

Even if the argument turned out to be completely fabricated or disprovable, did it at the very least draw you closer to believing the Bible is God's Word and all that such a belief entails?
If not, has there ever been an argument that you didn't know how to answer, or that surprised you  against your expectations?
Not looking for "All Christian arguments are idiotic" replies. This is an honest question.

I consider myself a recent deconvert; within two years. I am probably one of the least deeply logical people I know, simply because it is very cumbersome for me to reason through advanced arguments. (Thank you 30+ years of fundamentalist indoctrination.) Be that as it may, I have yet to hear an argument that after careful consideration would make me reconsider. Even if one existed, there are hundreds of others that have perforations larger than a super-massive black hole.

Yes, when I was deconverting, the inanities from religious people was far more influential than anything nonreligious people said.  I was raised to think of nonbelievers as tools of the devil, so I did not trust them.  But the simple fact is, the religious people have bugger all in favor of their nonsense.  The more they speak and try to convince, the more obvious it is that they cannot reason properly and have no real evidence at all for their position.

If there were an actual good argument for the existence of God, don't you think that the religious people would be pushing it hard and making it well-known?  Why put forth nonsense when one has actual sense on one's side?  The fact that they don't push forward such an argument gives you reason to believe that no such argument exists.

Not since adulthood. That applies to all the world's religions.

I respect many generic god arguments - arguments for a god nobody knows anything about. Arguments for specific gods like Yahweh/Jesus look no different to me than arguments for the Great Pumpkin. Every religion I've ever heard of is so full of holes it is impossible to take seriously.

For me it's since I began connecting the dots and seeing that what I already knew about the world didn't add up with the tales.

So, any geocentric or humanocentric (is that even a word?) god, was quickly out of the picture. The only thing I could reasonably not rule out entirely, was a totally neutral higher force, not having any interest in the proceedings of these little ant colonies.

For I the silliest part of religions is the appeal to ancient sacred texts. What is it with gods and ancient books?
