Honest Question to Atheists - Best Argument?

RE: Honest Question to Atheists - Best Argument?
How very wonderful for you, being that one in a million believer capable of wading through the muck and reaching the promised land.  So special, so faithful, so obviously pious.  LOL, you're a running joke.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Not a good question. I always question whether or not I'm correct about everything. However, there's never been a Christian argument or statement that has, even for a split second, made me think that Christianity might be true.

Quote:Even if the argument turned out to be completely fabricated or disprovable, did it at the very least draw you closer to believing the Bible is God's Word and all that such a belief entails?

No.

Quote:If not, has there ever been an argument that you didn't know how to answer, or that surprised you  against your expectations?

Sometimes the fallacy is difficult to precisely identify. Otherwise, no.

Quote:Not looking for "All Christian arguments are idiotic" replies. This is an honest question.

And I have replied with honest answers.

Let me add that I have not yet discovered what Christianity or any other religion actually means, much less whether or not they are true.

Ah, but "pops" is doing it RIGHT! He has the magic sauce! The secret ingredient(s)! Pops has TRUE faith! Not that yucky UNTRUE faith! Blech!

Pops knows HOW TO DO IT RIGHT! Yay! Finally! Whoopee!

Sarcasm? Yeah, just a little wee bit. I got some sun today. A little crispy out there.

What a joke, and I'm guessing the joke eludes you; zooming over your head at a high rate of speed.

I get it just fine. Most Christian I talk to are pretty dead on about most things actually. Some show confusion and a beaten down Faith because of it.

Nah. All the arguments for all gods have stronger arguments against them. Once you relize that fact, your atheism too becomes a fact.

Your speaking out of your ass. First it was emotions can render truth. You then stated that emotions cloud one's ability to ascertain truth. When the contradiction was pointed out you invoked the idea of 'negative' emotions in an attempt to reconcile your previous statements. After dismantling your assertion that 'negative' emotions cloud discovery of truth, you now attempt to differentiate 'negative' emotions based on whether or not they arise from instinct or some higher level cognitive function. You're simultaneously reaching and making shit up.

I am certain that you have no idea of the complexity of the various theories of emotion. In typical religious fashion, you parlay topical ignorance into an oversimplified theme in order to make grand pronouncements.

You should read this article simply to get a grasp of how broad and complex theories of emotion are:

I can't recommend highly enough Daniel Kahneman's Thinking, Fast and Slow. His notion of a remembering self and experiencing self and their profound differences had quite an impact on how I consider the subject.

I don't reach for anything but the truth. It is exceedingly simple. Thought that evokes positive emotion which is energy is good. Thought that evokes negative energy in any form is bad, mkay?

The lack of action, or productive use of said energy is chaos. The waste of knowledge and/ or energy.

Seems simple to me. Please attempt not to stereotype.

Chopra-esque meaningless drivel.

There you go talking about energy again...as though you were talking about energy......it's good juju that you're discussing, Pops. Juju, not energy.
