Simple question for Christians.
RE: Simple question for Christians.
Awesome, thanks Rhythm Smile

@All

I'd also like to point out the false dichotomy we often get with religion, that either science can currently explain it adequately or it was done by magic by a god who also happens to be my particular god. Those are certainly not the only two options for anything. No advances in understanding have ever been made by writing thing off as magic and heading home.

I reject all other gods because they have been moved into the area of mythology by many people over many years. My God has not been put into the realm of mythology by except for those who refuse to believe in Him.
But that's how all of those other gods eventually became recognized as myth. People stopped believing and eventually replaced one group of gods with another. I think that as the world has become more and more connected, the likelihood is that today's gods will evolve instead of being replaced. Yahweh went from the vengeful and jealous god of the OT to the more subtle Jesus of the NT. Over the intervening centuries Christianity has developed and evolved further through the many denominations, some of which allow women and gays to be priests and who accept cultural norms that previous generations would consider abominations. I think that the Christianity of 2065 will look drastically different from that of today.

Godschild Wrote:This is speculation, I wouldn't be involved in a discussion about Yeti, but for the discussion if I were I would not in any way act as many atheist here do. I would simply state I do not believe without the rants and ravings that go on here, I wouldn't insult the persons intelligence nor call that person a lunatic. I would more likely call a Christian crazy for an obviously bad interpretation of the Bible scriptures. Why exactly do you think I would laugh at him, I do not laugh at the atheist here.
I don't have a problem with how people address one another, and I think it's okay if you laughed at someone for saying something you found ridiculous. I mostly focus on the discussion and the points being made. Mind you, I'm willing to be courteous with you because I know you will return it and I try not to be a jerk for no reason, so there's something to be said for the mild approach.

Godschild Wrote:You nor Min or anyone else will ever convince me that he doesn't hate God, as far as God doing something, God will have His day of justice with him, I'm hoping that that justice will be seen through the blood of Christ, I have that hope for everyone here, I do care whether anyone here believes it. What I want do is be treated like a pile of crap an not speak up, that's just part of my nature and if people are offended by by boldness then they should think before they act. Again I appreciate the good conversation.
No problem. I don't think Min is concerned with how he is perceived and I'm not concerned with proving his belief, I just think that his vitriol is aimed specifically at people (and not god) because he knows he will be heard by people. Assuming that we are referring to the god of the Bible, no one who actually believed he was real would be so nasty about it, even if he hated that god. The god of the Bible is a pretty scary character. The kind of guy you only hate if you know he can't hear you.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

We also 'evolved' to be pleasure-seeking, sugar & fat loving, greedy, self-serving, and rationalizing bad behavior. You have asserted without out proof that the favorable traits of altruism overrides other human impulses and desires.

What no line of scripture?  Good, I was afraid for a while there that some one had hijacked your account.
