This is entirely possible and yes, we would have absolutely no way of knowing either one way or the other. It's equally possible that the universe in which this one is being simulated is in fact a simulation itself as well from an even more complex technology, perhaps in a universe where the laws of physics are sufficiently different to allow this sort of thing to happen.

But, unless someone knows different then we can never know and so the subject is firmly wedged in the realm of philosophy and the best thing to do is to say, hang the sense of it all and just keep yourself occupied

Imagine if there were no loading times to this game either, but do you notice everytime you drive in your car into another location too quickly the traffic lights always seem to go red? Almost as they're there to slow your progress down, as if to prevent you falling off into a white void or compromising the game reality.

That's pretty sophisticated stuff. Maybe we are all posts in a forum. And maybe the forum is the Bible and maybe Jesus is the moderator and maybe God is the computer geek who keeps it all going.
