Yeah, I'm not an idiot, I do suppose that's the case, but I asked 'em some questions about prospects and it didn't sound like total bullshit. The position itself is a trainee role, so I can't imagine they'll keep me a 'trainee' forever. Surely that would defeat the point of being a trainee.
