I think I stopped believing in Santa in my early thirties. I was quite distraught.

Children like the holiday just fine without the nonsensical beliefs attached. What you are saying is just the rationalization that the goddamned liars like to give for their goddamned lies. People like tricking children, as it makes them feel superior. It does not benefit the children at all. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

But.....I see this post and it seems like an extreme overreaction. I do not believe that parents who tell their kids Santa is real are these malevolent people tricking their kids on some disgusting power trip. Actually, I find the notion laughably ridiculous. People remember enjoying Santa Claus and they want their children to have those same good memories. Is it necessary? No, but it's also not harmful. No kidding, I saw a newsreel or documentary on the USN Skate surfacing at or near the North Pole when I was a little kid and did NOT see Santa or elves or a toy factory.
I wasn't received well at school by my classmates with that news bulletin. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
Those bad people who think a gnome, or a log bring presents will get the rubbish they believe in. Catalunya (and Valencia) is full of logs, and Norway and Sweden full of ugly garden gnomes. Unfortunately those people enjoy the presents that the Yule Goat thinks is punishment. Those who believe in a fat drunk, the Yule Goat doesn't bother with as they eat and drink so much that they naturally turn into him.
Mincemeat originated in Nimby, given by the Yule Goat. It consisted of goat poo as pooing is cool, and beef suet as then the Nimbyans are cannibals. Nimbyans added some spices to disguise the taste then ate it in pies and tarts as it was their most nutritious meal of the year. Those others who have the tradition of Christmas mincemeat use a variety of dried grapes as goat poo is a bit hard to get. *who as every child knows, may or may not exist. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
I wouldn't say to a little kid "no, Santa is not real", that would be assholish of me. Rather, just play along without ever having to lie and they'll eventually grow out of it. Nothing to fuss about. I'm more concerned about harmful doctrines being forced on kids such as the doctrine of hell.
Hell, we should have more made up shit to keep the little fuckers from misbehaving.
How about spreading the idea that if a kid is bad enough, they can be spanked to DEATH. And let them know it takes a long time, and there are some really big ugly nasty men we keep around to do just that. There can be a few made up news stories from time to time in the media with the announcer gravely intoning yet another accursed brat was spanked to death today in New Jersey. It took most of the day, and the kid really wailed and screamed till he died. Keep the little shits scared to be fuck ups. Bwa, ha, ha, ha, ha !!! The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
