I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Sometimes I try to make my dog hump my cat so I can make the apocalypse happen.
I was 14 when I read the entire bible but from what I do remember I'm fairly certain that was the sole requirement.

I still remember my first trip to Europe and how much smaller the elevators are there compared to our enormous ones here in the states. I was in Lippstadt, Germany and our office building was so old it still had a functioning paternoster (still does). I thought those people were batsh*t crazy using that thing.

You can't build spacious elevators in old buildings. Many of them are heritage property and can't be adapted to suit the elevator. Accordingly the elevator has to be adapted. That paternoster is probably protected, so it can't be replaced with something more contemporary.

Quite right, I remember my colleagues mentioning that. They aren't putting in paternosters any more, but the current ones are indeed protected and cannot be replaced unless they cease to function entirely. Sure makes you pay attention when you use it though.
