Honestly? I'm totally ambivalent on the subject.
I'm tired of being the world's policeman and tired of being regarded as the answer to every problem. Even the ones we did not cause! We have basically driven ourselves into bankruptcy in the process. We have enough problems of our own.

Do you know any numbers how many refugees are taken in by middle eastern countries?

These countries have Syrian residents, but they have taken none considered to be refugees.
Quote:According to the to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), there are about 500,000 Syrians living in Saudi Arabia, but they are not classified as asylum seekers and it is not known when they arrived in the country.
Other reports indicate that Saudi Arabia has not taken in any new refugees, along with Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Why is this a problem for 'western' countries to sort out when middle eastern countries in this very region sit idle?

I actually agree...
We have our own problems and if the neighboring countries will not act, then why should we? If we are compelled to do anything, we should compel Syria's neighbors to set up, and or maybe support them..

Bingo. That is exactly what we are doing.
http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2016/02/252113.htm
Quote:Secretary Kerry announced today that the United States is providing nearly $601 million in additional life-saving humanitarian assistance for those affected by the war in Syria. This new funding brings U.S. humanitarian assistance in response to this conflict to more than $5.1 billion since the start of the crisis. Secretary Kerry also announced more than $290 million in U.S. development assistance for education to Jordan and Lebanon.
The Syrian conflict is the largest and most complex humanitarian emergency of our time, with more than two-thirds of Syria’s pre-war population—17 million people—in need of humanitarian assistance. Through this humanitarian funding, the United States continues to provide food, shelter, water, medical care, humanitarian protection, and other urgent relief to millions of people suffering inside Syria and 4.6 million refugees from Syria in the region. It also helps mitigate the impact of the crisis on governments and communities throughout the region that are straining to cope with the mass influx of refugees from Syria.

Got no problem with immigrants. Just tell 'em to leave their barbaric ways back in the shitholes they came from.

For the most part, it's better as those countries are more compatible with their way of life as Paulpablo mentioned earlier in the thread.
But let me ask you this, why isn't your country doing much about it? We're a tiny Island nation and have taken 15,000 so far. The US has only taken roughly 4,000.
Being a person that is only the second of my generation into this country, I'm all for taking in those who need help. But it's a really sad day when one's own country won't even help its homeless population or its military vets. Does anyone really think we're going to extend our hand out to refugees in the same capacity as other countries have?
On another note: Let me ask this - has Japan or China or South Korea taken in any of these refugees? Australia? New Zealand? If the answer is no or they have taken in roughly the same numbers as the US, why isn't anyone saying anything about those countries?

For a rare moment I agree with you Drich. Honestly, the US is constantly being told to "mind its own business". We do just that and suddenly we become the bad guys? I guess other countries residents are fickle that way. Other countries all want us to stay out of it until a monetary need arises from something like a natural disaster. Then they bitch because we won't step up fast enough or with enough resources.
I really wish people would stop and think for a minute about all the aid the US has given out to other countries before they start bitching about only taking in 4,000 refugees. We are usually the first country to respond with aid such as volunteers, temporary housing, food and medical supplies and fresh, potable water when another country gets hit with a natural disaster. Oh and don't forget money. We give that away too.
So let me ask, when hurricane Katrina hit our soil, where was the aid and the help from other countries? How long did it take before other countries donated billions to our residents in need? Please note that it's been over ten years and parts of NO are still abandoned. Parts of the city are still in ruin and people will never be able to return to their homes because they can't afford to rebuild them and they can't get help.

Japan has only taken a couple, they believe in helping their own and addressing their problems first. Not sure about the others on your list though.

The thing I'd say about those countries is they're very wise.
And I don't see intergration happening when you have Syrians with a literacy rate of 86% and an average iq of 83. Considering the people of South Korea, China and Japan are basically the smartest, most hard working well educated people in the world.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

For the record, I wasn't really bitching. It was more just a question. Your citizens, especially vets and the homeless should always come first before migrants. I just wish Europe had the same attitude.
