Why are people so cruel? Refugees

I think Australia could do more to help but unfortunately we have a lot of racists here.
It's not like we don't have room.
We're thirty times bigger than England and almost the same size as the US.
Possibly the biggest problem is our small population.
You don't need to add as many foreign people to annihilate the culture.
I think people are scared of us losing our identity.
Mostly the older generation.

That kind of hate is stupid, but that doesn't mean there aren't logical reasons to be oppossed to the refugees' immigration.

Plus the fact some of these countries have ridiculous surplus wealth.  Quatar, Brunei, and Kuwait.

Syria has been a secular state for almost a century. Why would Syrian Muslims want to live in a religiously oppressive regime? Why would WE want them to?

But let me ask you this, why isn't your country doing much about it? We're a tiny Island nation and have taken 15,000 so far. The US has only taken roughly 4,000.

We've taken 100s of thousands of Muslim refugees in the last 15 years; but it's an election year and the GOP has decided that making everyone afraid some of them might be terrorists is how to beat the Democrats.

Being a person that is only the second of my generation into this country, I'm all for taking in those who need help. But it's a really sad day when one's own country won't even help its homeless population or its military vets. Does anyone really think we're going to extend our hand out to refugees in the same capacity as other countries have?

On another note: Let me ask this - has Japan or China or South Korea taken in any of these refugees? Australia? New Zealand? If the answer is no or they have taken in roughly the same numbers as the US, why isn't anyone saying anything about those countries?

On average, we take about 70,000 refugees a year. Many of them are Muslims. But this year we've decided to be alarmed about that.

I'm not Japanese or Chinese or South Korean or Australian; so I tend to focus on what my own country (the USA) is doing. I've lived in Japan, and I wouldn't expect them to suddenly start opening their arms to refugees at this particular point.

For a rare moment I agree with you Drich. Honestly, the US is constantly being told to "mind its own business". We do just that and suddenly we become the bad guys? I guess other countries residents are fickle that way. Other countries all want us to stay out of it until a monetary need arises from something like a natural disaster. Then they bitch because we won't step up fast enough or with enough resources.

Maybe when we're told to 'mind our own business', it's a dog whistle for 'please don't invade any more countries without provocation' and not 'please become isolationist and don't help anyone but yourselves'.
