Takes some serious genetic engineering I would say. How about planting a 53 year old brain in a 14 year old body? I would volunteer. Knowing what I know today with having the world still waiting for me.

I just want to put my opinion out there, because I believe this is a taboo topic nobody ever discusses.
Society usually hates pedophiles, and wants to see them crushed and dead. This is one of the reasons I believe pedophiles dont seek for professional help or help from relatives. They are afraid of being judged.
This is why I believe that governments should invest in campaigns, informing to the general public what pedophilia is, and motivating pedophiles to seek for help.
Now, some of you may be thinking "Protecting kids is the main priority", and it is. If you help pedophiles control their disorder (since we cant cure it as of right now), chances are they will not abuse kids. Therefore, the kids will be safe too.
Have you ever wondered, how many people you have met through your life have been pedophiles? Maybe they are even married, with kids. I think we all have, we just dont know about it. Maybe even some of your friends.
What do you think? Just to stick in a few of my thoughts on the subject.........
I don't get how you could come to the conclusion that pedophiles are either born that way or not.
I have no proof either way but I feel like I've picked up my sexual preferences through my life rather than been born with them. Not to be confused with my sexuality. I'm talking about age preferences, look, personality types and so on.
I don't think there's a perfect age for people to begin having sex. I do think outrage against having sex with prepubescent, or just not very well developed young people, is a good thing.
I think it goes along with not hitting children and properly educating children as being a step forward in civilisation.
The campaigns that you think the government should spend money on informing the general public about what pedophilia is, why?
I can understand some campaigns in schools getting children informed about people might try to take advantage of them sexually, and what they should do about it and so on.
But campaigns informing what pedophilia is? You would simply need leaflets saying " Pedophilia or paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children"
But I don't see the point.
Anyway, I DEFINITELY recommend that you or anyone interested in this topic should watch a documentary, by Louis Theroux called "A place for Peadophiles"
It shows a place dedicated to trying to help out these offenders. The impression that I personally got from the documentary is that help for the most part is false hope, the people there doing the helping didn't have a clue, Louis Theroux seemed to talk to them in a more intelligent way than the doctors did and observed more things about them.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

I might change my mind of you go much younger than that as far as body age because even with a 30 year old mind and a mental capability to consent there wouldn't be anything resembling a physical development capable of safely having sex with an adult. It's only a grey area when you start adding in fake scenarios. Makes me feel like a creeper just considering it tbh.
Okay so there is a biological aspect then, is that fair to say?
I would agree with this, FYI.
I would say so at least in to the extent that a child's body isn't physically developed for having sex.

This would be the point in the campaigning I think. To get more people involved. More research. More learning. To urge people to come out without fear so we can learn about them, try to understand where the flaw is in the way their brains work, and figure out a real solution. Teaching kids how to be safe isn't a solution to pedophilia. It's a protection against child molestation. It's important and we should keep doing it but it's nothing to do with actually addressing pedophilia which I think really could be addressed if we put some effort into trying.

So then the money should be taken out of that campaign to tell people about what pedophilia is and put into research into what it is. It wouldn't be much use of the government to tell us all about pedophiles when no concrete research results have concluded anything yet. Apart from the definition and a few correlations between peadophiles and certain traits.
There's probably a lot of money going towards that general area of research, sexual behaviour, brain patterns, scans.

All the money in the world is useless if you haven't many people to study and try to help. I think any "campaign" would just be to spread the word that pedophilia is not synonymous with child molestor/rapist. Any further educating of the public on the subject would need to wait until we have some solid information to share. Right now it's all just a bunch of opinions.

So you think if it's not exclusive or primary(if it's secondary instead) then it's ok/not as much of a problem, and people shouldn't even be called pedophiles for that?

This is exactly what needs to be done. As understandable as the way pedophiles are treated today is, it doesn't really solve the problem any more than making homosexuality illegal made gay people go away. All it does is thin out the numbers and doesn't actually get to the root of this problem. If we get people to be more open about the problem (and sure as shit not condoning it in any way, unless perhaps they had the good sense to not act on those desires), we might get people trying to study it, and, if at all possible, find a way to either neutralise or perhaps even get rid of the desire altogether. Of course, there will always be pedophiles who wouldn't comply. Would these be the majority of the pedophilic whole or just a minority, and if so, how small? The fact is, I have no fucking idea and, until we can get some research off the ground to really establish it, we never will. And no matter how many predators Chris Hansen may have caught (most of which got off scot-free due to the dodgy legality of the circumstances behind their arrest), it won't make any difference in the long run.

I agree, parallels to homosexuality are easy to see.
I was also thinking about psychopathy. Recently it's become possible to talk about having a kid that's showing tendencies towards being a psycopath, and seeking proper help for them, without someone grabbing a torch and a pitchfork. Well, some people probably still would. But more people are becoming understanding that this doesn't solve the problem, and that letting people talk about it and getting the support they need is beneficial for all, rather than sweeping it under the carpet.
Do we learn, understand, listen and treat/support people, or get hysterical at the mere mention of words so proper discussion can't even happen? I'm not accusing anyone in this thread of the latter. But for many people I have met, it is very much the case.

Well, irrationality is the human condition, isn't it? We should all strive to be more objective, but the fact is that that isn't really built into us.
