What's your job?
#91
RE: What's your job?
I've been a registered nurse for 7.5 years. I don't like it very much; I can't handle the shift work, I'm not really a people person, and the pay isn't really good enough considering all the hard work at ungodly hours. I particularly hate having to work holidays.

That's why I'm currently only working part time, mostly night shifts (because that pays extra), while I'm a full time student of Computer Science and Interaction Design. I only started this semester, so 2.5 more years to go. If I can manage to pass my exams in Java programming, that is. It's a struggle.

Sounds like highly satisfying work. Do you have any pictures of your instruments?

Yes, this!
I've asked him since a year ago if I could see his theorbo.

I hope that's not code for anything

Hadn't mentioned whether I was upfront with my atheism when I worked. I was with the adults but wasn't with the students. In Berkeley, who knows? Maybe the majority would have been atheist but I decided there was no reason to create an extra barrier for any of my students. There certainly are some that are religious and it was easier to just fly low and avoid ruffling any feathers. I was fine with sharing the good news that I was religion-free with my fellow teachers. But even there, only when it came up. So my jewish friends who confided how annoying it was to have the christian holiday shoved down their throats would hear how all them, theirs included, were annoying for the godless.

So far I haven't publicly displayed my atheism in school, and there are some colleagues who I know are active in church, but I had elaborate discussions on Death Metal with fellow maths teachers, and I strongly suspect they are not terribly religious Smile

I didn't either at my last job, although I told people when they asked.

I remember this one time I had said I'd been raised Catholic, and this woman (some kind of Protestant) got offended with me because "Catholics aren't Christians" according to her.

Not sure what else she'd call people who worship Jesus Christ but ok.

She sounds like a moron, though...

As I work at a scientific institute in Europe, it's kinda implied that people don't believe in anything... but there are a few who do and we tend to know who they are.
They're nice folk, we just live and let live.
