Would you negotiate with terrorists?
|
Yes. I would do everything I could to give them whatever the fuck they wanted. In that situation, it's not about the Greater Good, it's about the life of a specific person I love.
If The Flintstones have taught us anything, it's that pelicans can be used to mix cement.

Besides, I don't think there is any "greater good" behind "we don't negotiate with terrorists", it's just another made up reason by someone that don't really give a fuck. Perhaps. But if you really loved someone you'd do it anyway. (January 19, 2017 at 10:33 am)robvalue Wrote: Imagine that one of your loved ones has been kidnapped. You have been sent proof of life and a ransom demand for a large amount of money. Between you and everyone you know, you can just about scrape the money together but it will leave you broke. The best way for a kidnapper to be caught is from something the survivor tells the authorities, so they cant be relied on. Paying them would only encourage them to do it again. You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid. Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis. RE: Would you negotiate with terrorists?

For myself, I say don't negotiate for my ass. I've lived a good life and am useless as a slave. Plus, I'm betting that I could goad them into killing me just to shut me the fuck up.
For a loved one, I'd have to consider the circumstances. For my son, yep, I'd scrape up the dough ... and arm up, too. Because someone's got to pick up the money sometime, and they would have a lot of useful information, I imagine. (January 19, 2017 at 10:37 am)mh.brewer Wrote: Nope. If they are that smart and callous, why would they let the hostage witness live? More to the point. RE: Would you negotiate with terrorists?

I wouldn't want anyone to pay for me, no. There is no incentive for me to be released, even if the money is paid. Whatever is going to happen to me is almost certainly going to happen either way. I wouldn't want my loved ones to bankrupt themselves on top of that, or to give money to these people.
Interesting, the poll currently has an exact split 7/7 yes/no! Feel free to send me a private message.

WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them. Impersonation is treason.
Cheers
