Vaccination exemption in CA, personal down, medical up

I would plan to vaccinate my kids, but I feel like if someone doesn't want to for whatever reason they shouldn't be forced into it .

Its a form of child abuse. By not giving the child the protection they need when that child who has no ability to object and is thus subjected to the potentially damaging medical decisions of ill informed parents it is hard to understand.
The child may be crippled or killed by the lack of vaccine and it would be  the parents fault.

The era before vaccination was one of constant horror and death and it is only a few morons away from coming back.

Yep.  Failure to vaccinate your children is neglect as far as I'm concerned.

Sadly many of my affluent clients in Ca decided not to vaccinate. One was a highly educated lawyer with a kid that had no physical illnesses. Its a privileged choice for most and expecting others to vaccinate is their crutch. Many of my hairdresser girlfriends chose not to vaccinate and at the time I didn't care, because I knew my kids were safe. Now I see how their kids could effect a new baby, old person or highly susceptible child that can't get vaccinated and I say fuck u bitches. Learn something besides what the K family is teaching u and care about how u  could be infecting other innocent folk. Glad ca is taking a stand but like everything people are still choosing to believe what they want. Maybe better education in schools would help. We push Std and Drug education. How about life threatened non vaxers be a subject to tackle.

Um, because one is wilfully reckless, and the other isn't.

I understand that, but it doesn't change the actual outcome. If going to school as an unvaccinated child poses a risk for everyone else, then that is the case regardless of the reason for why they are unvaccinated.

How about this:

The unvaccinated children's parents are required to report to the school that their child is not vaccinated. And if there is another unvaccinated child in that school who has not been vaccinated for legit medical reasons, then arrangements have to be made to be sure the 2 kids are not in the same classes together and try to avoid each other.

I think you have a very valid argument, and I agree with your point. But I think trying to find some middle ground and trying to come up with a way to handle the situation without having to outright discriminate a kid from public school would be a better alternative.

This would be an admirable stance if not for the fact that we're talking about keeping kids from carrying debilitating and (in quite a few cases) potentially deadly illnesses that are a Hell of a lot easier to prevent than treat. And add to it that parents who don't vaccinate tend to be clustered together and herd immunity can become virtually nonexistent in such cases, that stance becomes a Hell of a lot less defensible.

Remember how, a couple years ago, one kid started a massive outbreak of measles in Disneyland and wound up infecting over a hundred people? Most of the people who got it weren't vaccinated because their parents said no.

I mean, I can understand why people might want to refuse vaccines: every time I've been given the flu vaccine, I end up getting it anyway (I don't know, maybe the mutations not covered by a given vaccine are attracted to those who've been given it somehow). As a kid, I hated getting shots (to this day, I'm scared of doctors and needles; though, after a severe stomach ailment a couple years ago, I wound up getting a bit desensitized), not helped by the fact my grade school days were so horrible that the prospect of being crippled by polio or even dying of a preventable disease seemed like a step up from what I had to go through every day.

But, really, at least for the vaccines that take care of the worse diseases, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks (and it certainly won't give your kids autism, no matter what Jenny McCarthy says; and, as someone on the spectrum, the implication that autism is in itself somehow so horrible that BRINGING BACK POLIO might be a decent alternative to it offends me to no end.)
