Happens every fucking week you numbskull. The coast guard hits them with water cannons a couple miles out in intnl water off the coast of S. Fl. That's all the Guard does in S. Fl, all day erryday.
Did I say it didn't happen? I said whens the last time you heard of it happening... which means if you have information of boats leaving Haiti for the U.S every week, then post up your source of information.
Either way point still stands, there are far more people going to Haiti (28-32 flights everyday) than are trying to leave by boat, my mother-in-law who has dual citizenship, spends most of her time in Haiti, so get out of here with that "worst country in the world" nonsense.

What Haiti doesn't have are social programs. There's no welfare, no social security, no foster care, Haiti is about being on that grind, no matter if you're young, old or crippled, Haitians are very hard working people. That being said My mother-in-law is Haitian, she personally has around 15 people living at her house, that do housework for room and board.
There was a time in England where kids as young as 4 swept chimneys, so every country has been a "shithole" at one point or another, and Haiti has only been recognized as country for just under 160 years.
America built it's wealth off of free African Labor, If reparations were to be paid, it is estimated the U.S. would owe 14 trillion dollars as stated in a Newsweek article.
So slavery is the only reason America is in the position it's in, without slavery America doesn't exist.
NO SHIT,
But how am I responsible for what started 400 years before I was born?
Who said you were?
Quote:Saying we SHOULD NOT repeat the past, does not mean today's population is responsible for what their ancestors did.
Who said they are?
Quote:Does it make sense to blame today's German population for what Hitler's Germany did?
No one here said that...? I don’t believe Huggy was insinuating a word of that. Where you got any of those implications from his post is beyond me.

I call bullshit. There are a ton of things that happened after slavery was abolished that have contributed to the US' position. WTF did I ever do with slaves? Newsweek also estimated it as between $5.9T and $14T. Is there a real number in there somewhere? Then again, maybe trace all the ancestry of the people in Africa who pillaged villages for slaves to sell, and make them pay, too. Blame is all over the place. Hmm, a little biblical quote about the "sins of the father" come to mind. See, I can do it, too.

With the importation of the white russet potato.
You can actually Google that question. There are multiple sources that answer it but the basic answer is when the Irish stopped identifying with the blacks and started to oppress them like the white Americans did.

Yup and it was partially engineered by plantation owners and vested interests to divide the blacks and the Irish by treated the Irish more white. That way they would band together and and revolt .

All intentional asshattery aside, there's a tendency for the recently enfranchised or recently naturalized, realizing the value of the thing they now possess, to close the door behind themselves, so to speak. It's easy to see why irish and italian immigrants, or the children of either..would not want to have to compete with future waves of immigrants or other minorities for jobs (or recognition). In that way the newly white closed the door on all the "non-whites" - and even immigrants from their own countries of origin. Irish american natives were famously dismissive of irish immigrants. Perhaps moreso than most.
Today, there's a certain subset of people outspoken for african-american causes (and also racist pieces of shit that use it as cover - granted) that think we might want to get our shit together on that front before we spend too much time worrying about making life better for the undocumented. A gallup poll that broke down concern by ethnicity showed that, as a group, black americans were the least concerned with immigrant issues. In the middle (barely) where non-hispanic whites..offset perhaps by the fact that at least some of those saying they were concerned -probably- meant that they were concerned about all the mexicans being here...and ofc the group that expressed the most concern, no surprise, being hispanics themselves.
Even there, though, you can find the rhetoric of a closed door. Mexicans and cubans..for example, not necessarily fond of being mistaken for each other..or each other, and enfranchised people of hispanic descent greatly resenting being lumped in with whatever portion of the undocumented demographic is said or maintained by Some People to be giving the rest of them a bad name.
@Tiz
That scam you briefly described above -still- fuckin works, too..only now it's used to set the poor against each other, by and large....though I guess we could say it was always thus. Nothing new under the sun, eh?

Modern white Americans are not responsible for what happened 400 years before we were born. Modern white Americans ARE responsible for their action or inaction regarding the systematized discrimination and oppression that remains.

If western Christians want to point to the oppressed Coptic Christians or Kurdish Christians in the east, I'd be the FIRST to agree. But even in such agreement, that would not make any God real, it would merely mean that geographic location is tough on Christians.
In America unfortunately we do have a long term deep rooted problem, even with all our progress, that still allows the marginalizing of minorities in this country.
