A civilian version of the M-16, stripped of its capability for automatic fire. It's a good rifle, and, for instance, ranchers use it to peg predators at distance because it has a high muzzle velocity and is therefore very accurate when properly sighted-in.

It's a semi-automatic firearm, meaning that one pull of the trigger gets one round downrange, and uses the exhaust gas to chamber the next round.

Not terribly different from the Remington .22 I was taught to shoot on when I was a kid, except that the round has a higher charge.

Fuck rawstory and fuck Kimmel. Arguing gun control doesn't answer the underlying question as to why anyone would even act out to commit murder. There's a culture of violence in this country that's been partially created by Hollywood and the gaming industry among other influences. There's been a deterioration of morals and self discipline among the youth with no fear of consequences. Like minded Jack Asses like you with your Fucking Cops threads and your radical disdain for lawful order only works to encourage a continued culture of violence here.

You seem to forget that there was an abundance of violence in this country long before Hollywood and video games and other influences.

Your point may be apt, but the fact is that these sorts of mass murders have increased in frequency over the last, say, 20 years.

I'm not blaming games or modern mass culture; I don't know why these are happening more often. But the fact is that they are.

Seems to me that "now's not the time to talk about it" is not working, because as they happen more and more often, it can never be the time.

I'm for gun ownership rights, but like every other right listed in the BoR, prudent restrictions are handy. And we have some in place already. But for Reasons™, we as a nation seem to have decided that this particular right should remain inviolate.

He's right, though, in the sense that we as a society need to address whatever issues might be causing such alienation. Granted that it's a miniscule proportion of murders, but I think we can agree that the root causes of this particular mass-murder also underlie other, less deadly social issues.

Doesn't it behoove us to address them?

When will America realise that giving the general public access to firearms is a bad idea.
I accept that exceptions may need to be made for farmers, people living near dangerous (non human) animals etc. but these should be strictly limited.

Because you can't look on the street an say " look a sociopath" or control the enviroment of the children ( and btw the like's of Bundy were psychopaths, people with almost no emotions who were persecuted in childhood and also , most of them don't use guns) you dumb fuck. The best way to predict this kind of things is to restrict the fucking gun laws. You know how many mass shootings are in Romania ? 0 , you know how many people were killed in 2012 with a gun ? 6. Why because we have very restrictive gun laws, maybe Romania is not as developed as the USA but at least our kids aren't guned down in schools. And please don't say culture , almoste everyone on this fucking planet watches USA movies , tv shows or plays video fucking games.

Our culture has changed since I was as old as these kids who go out and shoot people. Back in my day if a punk ass mother fucker ran his fucking mouth we didn't shoot the dumb shit like kids do today.  Joods this will be my only reply to gun control on your thread. Guns do not jump off tables and start shooting people, people have to use them to hurt other and if we would do a better job of teaching people love and not hate these things would rarely happen.

Indeed.... but people are emotional and the presence of a gun empowers them, heightening the emotions and leading to.... what we see.
Had the guns not been available, the person would never cause such a problem... nor would it have happened 17 times in the past 47 days, a rate of more than two per week.

I for one don't agree with either "sides", banning guns or making stricter gun laws won't solve the problem, a simple "guns don't kill people" dismissal doesn't work either. There is a more fundamental issue here. I went through a quick profile of this shooter and my mind immediately shifted from disgust to feeling bad for this guy. His face looks so sad, he didn't have any friends, he was apparently obsessed with a girl but didn't have a girlfriend, his dad and mom are dead, he was described as an outcast, a white supremacist and a very depressed individual. He wasn't a vicious killer, he was a guy that felt he had nothing to live for and felt angry at the world but more importantly he was a kid that didn't know what love was. Loners like this aren't rare, most people grow out of it but having a gun and not having a gun is the difference between mailing a letter through post and sending an e-mail.
