Abstinence is an unfair and unrealistic “method” that does not, and never will translate to the real world no matter how badly you wish it so. The data plainly reflect that. Clearly, even your boy Alpha had a problem implementing it.

Some Facts: from http://www.abort73.com/abortion_facts/us...tatistics/
Quote:
- Induced abortions usually result from unintended pregnancies, which often occur despite the use of contraception (CDC).
- In 2008, 51% of women having abortions used a contraceptive method during the month they became pregnant. (AGI).
- 9 in 10 women at risk of unintended pregnancy are using a contraceptive method (AGI).
- Oral contraceptives, the most widely used reversible method of contraception, carry failure rates of 6 to 8% in actual practice (NAF).
Now I'm going to make some inferences from this data. You can tell me if you agree.
If 51% of abortions in the U.S. in 2008 where despite the use of contraception, then I'm going to assume that 49% had sex without the use of contraceptives. Do you disagree with this? Do you think that some percentage of that, should include those who abstained from sex?
I agree, that just saying not to have sex if you are not prepared to have a resulting child, doesn't result in less unplanned pregnancies. It has to actually happen. People need to realize that they are responsible for what happens from one's actions (whether intended or not). That you cannot just kill a human being to cover up for your indiscretions. If you are willing to kill someone to not have a child, then you should not be having sex.

See, I have this problem with calling a bundle of cells a "human being".
If a woman is raped, something outside of her control, then she has the right to an abortion, do you not agree?
Don't get me wrong, even I notice the fine line where abortion is concerned, because I have certainly argued that no man should have to pay child support if he doesn't want any part of the child while a woman can more easily escape responsibility through abortion.
However, when it does come to abortion, I do agree that it should always be the woman's choice to go through with it if she wishes.

It is a fact, that it is a distinct albeit developing human from the moment of conception. This is when a new life begins.

Pretty much all the major systems are in place by week 8. It has it's own heart beat and ~75% show signs of right hand dominance. It seems difficult to call this just a blob of cells.

And no, I do not agree, that rape gives a person a right to an abortion. While it certainly makes it more emotional and I'm more sympathetic, I don't see rape as a reason to kill an innocent human being.
[url=By the eighth week of pregnancy, every organ is present and in place. The embryonic period is now over. Ninety percent of the structures found in an adult human being can be found in this tiny embryo (now called a fetus) which is only about an inch and a half long. The brain, at this point, accounts for almost half of the body's total weight, and 75% of 8-week fetuses demonstrate right-hand dominance.][/url]

You are granting yourself the necessary assumption that a fertilized egg is a human being in order get to ‘therefore, abortion is immoral’, without even attempting to justify it at all. It shouldn’t come as a suprise to you that this proposition is highly disputed, lol. That’s where the dialogue should begin, rather than getting hung up on the sex. It is unrealistic, irrational, and frankly, unnatural to expect human beings to abstain from sex out of fear of pregnancy. The data support this. You have your head in the sand if you think abstinence is how we will finally solve the issue of unwanted pregnancies. It’s never going to happen. I’m not saying we should be flippant about abortions, RR. And, I’m not saying there is no such thing as personal responsibility. But you don’t get to just declare abortion wrong and sit back with your arms folded.
In my opinion, people who argue, “it’s always immoral” or “it’s always moral” are shutting down dialogue rather than opening it up.
Right hand dominance?! I’m calling bs on that. My son’s pediatrician and his OT therapist told me children don’t show consistent hand dominance until 3-4 years of age, lol. I will need to fact check that. As far as the rest, yes, the beginnings of those systems are in place, but they are rudimentary. I’ve had two kids, RR. I’ve read THE baby book probably more times than you have read the Bible. 😝

Wow. So you’re completely disregarding the physical suffering, and likely permanent psychological, and emotional trauma of an adult human woman? She should be forced to carry and deliver her rapist’s offspring after what she’s been through? Her control over her own body was robbed from her while being raped, and you think she should suffer further by being robbed of bodily control for another nine months? That would be like being raped over and over for nine months. I don’t think you actually know what it means to be human.

No, I do t think that at all... remember how we talked about not trying to speak for me.
Edit to add: One might think that using rape in such a rhetorical way, and in comparing pregnancy to being raped, that it is you who minimize and don’t respect the issue!

I didn’t ask you what you thought, did I? You offered up what you thought in a previous post; that women should not have the option to terminate a pregnancy on the grounds of rape, and I’m educating you on what that means for the rape victim. I’m sorry you don’t like the ugly reality of your position, but that’s exactly what it is. Maybe you should think on that for a bit before you respond again.
Quote:Edit to add: One might think that using rape in such a rhetorical way, and in comparing pregnancy to being raped, that it is you who minimize and don’t respect the issue!
And I think that you shouldn’t be talking about women’s sexual and reproductive issues when it’s clear you have neither the understanding, nor the empathy required to do so. Do you know that a rape victim can have her PTSD triggered during the labor and delivery of even a wanted pregnancy? You really don’t see how forcing a woman’s body to physically accommodate her rapist’s offspring is like forcing her to relive her trauma over and over? You’re a man. You don’t even know what the physical experience of pregnancy feels like for a woman. I’ll explain it to you, because I’ve done it. Twice.
You are being stretched from the inside out; a force that feels beyond what your body is capable of sustaining; pain, pressure, and sometimes agony. Your pelvis, cervix, and vaginal canal are bore down upon. There are times when you can’t even breathe, or control your bodily functions. And, you have absolutely no control over what’s going on inside of you. I think you should do a bit of reading and a bit of thinking, and I'm not talking about your damn Bible.
