Why did God divide the people of Babel?

They probably werent stupid people just ignorant. they were trying to explain the world the best way they could at the time. Its the people who believe this stuff NOW that are the stupid ones. You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid. Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis.
The perpetuation of ignorance begets stupidity: Yes, that makes sense there, plumb.

Guys, guys, no where in the Bible did it specifically say this utopia actually wanted to build a tower into "Heaven" or "God's Domain" or whatever.
Quote:Genesis 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. That's something the idiot Bible-thumpers take literally in order to make God here look like the 'good guy' and mankind's construction of the tower a hubristic act of defiance against their creator. It is figuratively speaking, like for example "Let's make a car with such beauty it'll be blinding" is not an actual proposal to create a vehicle that blinds onlookers. God divided Babel because he was deeply afraid of man. Humans working together for the better good could live as 'gods on the Earth' and nothing would be impossible for them. Quote:Genesis 11:6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. The obvious purpose of the Babel story is irony. Mankind was one but feared being scattered across the Earth by the tyrant God overlord so they build Babel to prevent this. The construction of the city and tower only served to attract God's attention, he realised the potential of a united human race, and thus scattered them across the Earth.
Just ...Wow! lmao
Not to mention the bible borrowed this tale from the Babylonians, too.
http://www.sacred-texts.com/ane/caog/caog06.htm Quote:The Sibyl says: That when all men formerly spoke the same language some among them undertook to erect a large and lofty tower, that they might climb up into heaven. But God sending forth a whirlwind confounded their design, and gave to each tribe a particular language of its own, which is the reason that the name of that city is Babylon. After the deluge lived Titan and Prometheus, when Titan undertook a war against Cronus.
It mentions Moses in those texts from the same book, like they're relating Jewish stories.
Berossus was 3d century BC. The Septuagint had already been written and moreover Berossus was on Cos in the Aegean and under the patronage of the Ptolemaic kings of Alexandria - which closes the circle even more.
Since we have exactly zero evidence of any of the tales existing in written form prior to the Greek version it seems reasonable that they were oral traditions ( common in ancient religion ) until the damn Greeks came along with their new-fangled WRITING!!!! Since he would presumably have been aware of the fact that after a while, the tower would have reached the Earth's atmosphere and they wouldn't have been able to go any further. Of course, this would be long after they experienced freezing conditions far, far lower down, so they'd never find that out in the first place. God would surely know there was nothing to worry about, no? It's almost like the people who wrote it didn't know about any of that stuff, isn't it? Yes, God knew that they nor anyone else could build a tower that would reach heaven. You could travel throughout the universe and not reach heaven. Go back and read the story again and see if you can find the truth in the passage. Hint it's not God who looks like an idiot.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Yes it is, because there is no truth in the story.
