It's interesting to read the history of WW2 from the perspective of the various participants on different sides and the different ways they view the conflict, the causes of it and the outcome. While you can have definite facts about history, for example the date of a battle, a lot of it is subjective.

After action reports show that the most important parts of an action were those that directly affected the person doing the reporting.

Speaking as a Historical Wargamer the commander's memoirs are always fairly near the top of the reading list.
