People panic buy guns. We panic buy toilet paper too. There isn't an increase in shooting or shitting when we panic buy.
Any potential increase in shootings based on increase of sales will be seen later. Seven years on average, when whatever easily concealable and financially attainable (for a criminal, with very little money) firearms begin to circulate as used guns for sale or trade. So, for example...a bunch of the cheap pistols people bought around sandy hook/obama redux are just now starting to show up in trace data.
However, to answer the opq - no one in your story shit themselves because people owned guns. They owned guns before the planned demonstration. People "shit themselves" when they heard that a bunch of people with guns had planned to converge on their ao, lol. I would too. If twitter blew up with "Errybody, get your rifles ands lets all meet at Nudgers, this tyranny wont stand, man!" - I wouldn't issue an order..... I'd be hiding in the woods with my kids.

#1 in firearm deaths are suicides. #2 is domestic violence. #3 is accident, including children.

And lets forget the mass shooting in Dallas in 2016 where 5 police officers were killed and because of the dickless morons open carrying assault weapons delayed police in finding the killer because they had to stop everyone to check their legality.
And when the right argues guns everywhere at all times, they are fucking full of shit. Congress doesn't allow civilians to carry into the Capital, airports don't either, and state houses and city buildings don't.
So what gun nuts really want is to stroke their own ego. Nothing more.
If suddenly only liberals were allowed to own guns, conservatives would scream for gun safety laws.
