I have to say, you don't make Islamic rule sound very appealing; and clearly most Islamic Republics manage to not be this harsh.

Side note: If you jail someone mistakenly you can let them out; if you cut off someone's hand mistakenly, you can't restore it and if you kill someone mistakenly you can't bring them back.

For that, you need top-notch investigation teams. For example; no execution unless 4 eye witnesses are available.

Not to mention non violent criminals generally get sent to lesser security prisons .Not to mention the dozens of ways a sentence can be reduced and prison rape can be dealt with. Need i also mention lots of countries have made prisons that are reasonably humane and safe .

According to you, chopping off hands was to the "benefit" of the perpetrator, instead of imprisonment, which was so "barbaric". Now it suddenly is all about deterrence? But hey, wouldnt it be more deterring to imprison the thief, so he gets raped? Someone told me its worse to be raped in prison than to get a hand chopped off. Or, if imprisonment is too harsh for thieves (who only get their hands chopped off), do you imprison murderers? Rapists maybe? Or do rapists get their dicks chopped off (in case imprisonment is still too harsh)? Maybe rapists have to marry their victim for compensation, i think i have read that somewhere.....
