A bolt-action Carcano (its flaws are exaggerated, especially by conspiracy theorists, but it seems to be a fairly decent gun, nothing special if not for what happened in Dallas) bought specifically because it was the cheapest gun Oswald could find in the ad he used to seek one out. And in the hands of a guy who could only land a neck shot and an off-center headshot when Kennedy’s head should have filled the the scope on said Carcano.

Actually, if I’m reading the report accurately, he had two AR-15s, one no-name that was in plain sight, and the Sig Sauer that they found after they towed the car. Also, they found two more pistols, a Luger 9mm and a Taurus 380 in his other car (along with multiple fake IDs.)

And, of course, you’re continuing to gun for this guy because... you like that he carried guns? Let's imagine they left the guns out of the story entirely. The article simply reports that man in possession of child pornography has multiple IDs and has researched possible ways to kill Joe Biden. It further states that he has multiple IDs and expressed interest in raping children and murdering their parents. But no mention of guns or explosives.

If failing to mow the lawn or forgetting his mother’s birthday were A) what convinced the cops they had probable cause to search his vehicle, B) could somehow aid in terroristic activities that the defendant was clearly interested in doing, according to the list of things in the court order, (although whether it was actual intent or mere ideation is unclear), or C) even if the circumstances behind such things were somehow more interesting and unique than the CP he was officially charged for, then the answer is yes.

Since the man was plainly obsessed with violence - regardless of what he was actually charged with - the presence of weapons in the van seems germane to the story. Lawn mowing and mum’s birthday aren’t really relevant to a story about a man with fantasies about murder, child rape and mass killings, so no, I wouldn’t report them.

Again: would leaving the guns out of the story entirely be biased journalism?
