I still can't figure out why people need to know ahead of time.  People used to manage just fine in the not-so-distant past with finding out at birth.

When my first was born (after a long arduous labor) the doctor said it was a boy then a nurse said it was a girl.  You would hope that labor and delivery personnel would know.  I was to the point of not caring as long as it over with.

I’m given to understand that knowing ahead of time simplifies the purchase of baby-related items. No one’s been able to adequately explain to me why that’s needful, though. I doubt very much that baby Susie is going to be scarred for life if she’s swaddled in a blue blanket instead of a pink one.

That's my understanding as well.  We used to buy little sleepers in mint green and yellow to have on hand for whatever you ended up with.  You would think in these days of not labeling all the hubbub surrounding gender reveals would die down a bit.

For the record, it’s not so much a slur as a sociological term that probably isn’t being given enough explanation. If I’m interpreting your reply accurately, I think my spiel about Katherine Johnson gave you some idea what DiAngelo means by whiteness. You might think it unfair to associate white people with oppression, but, to be honest, given that the idea of “white people” as opposed to, for instance, Englishmen or Spaniards or Germans originated as part of a power structure that placed themselves as “white people” on the top and “black people” on the bottom, and for the longest time, most white people have actively supported that power structure, it’s a fitting term, although it does require a lot of explanation to keep it from sounding like essentialist bullshit.

I refuse to see white as a negative. Slavery has existed since the beginning of humanity. Groups of people have always conquered other groups of people. There have always been different classes and life has always been unfair. None of this started with whites. It's human nature. We're animals and this is what we do.

Whites are probably the most non-racist people per capita, or right up there, so no, I don't want people to be told to be less white. Do random white Coca-Cola employees really need to be told not to oppress their black co-workers? I can understand the people in positions of power being told to be fair to everyone regardless of race or orientation, but regular employees? How are they oppressing their co-workers? By speaking over them? That happens in almost all conversations. You've got to learn to be more assertive if you want to make your point and you're worried about being shut out because you're being spoken over.

I don't want whites to be less white. I want blacks to be given more opportunity and help with investment into their communities so black excellence can rise closer to the level of white excellence. I want them to have the opportunity to be more like us (per capita) and share in the successes.

So yeah, I understand what whiteness is supposed to mean in some academic circles, but clearly the branding is not working as most white people just see it as insulting and racist.

Bear in mind, it took years for Black Lives Matter to actually gain mainstream acceptance among white people even though it's simply black people protesting their right to be treated like human beings.

Asians who come to the West often hold a negative view of blacks, especially the older Asians. When I go to the comment section on youtube of black radio stations or a show like Roland Martin's show, the majority of the comments are usually crapping on white people. You don't see that nearly as much with whites. Sure, some comment sections can have some pretty bad racism coming from whites, but that seems far less prevalent to me, per capita. White majority countries are the most liberal countries. They take in immigrants more than anyone else does. Whites are the only group with a huge portion of the group having a negative perception of their own race. Most BLM protesters are probably white.

The angry black woman is a real thing. Look at those blue haired weirdos who hijacked Bernie's rally after he was nice enough to promise to let them speak. You can stand up for yourself at work without doing it in an angry manner. These types of people need to learn to act more professional.

The reason a lot of people weren't down for the BLM stuff is because much of the rhetoric was based on lies. Hands up don't shoot was a lie. The Mike Brown killing was justified. Mike Brown is about as good of a martyr to get behind as OJ Simpson. Of course many people were going to be skeptical of the movement after they pushed a whole lot of lies on us.

Even if fewer white people actually are racially prejudiced, it doesn't mean jack shit when A) those few who are prejudiced are in a disproportionate amount of power, or B) even if less racist white people are in power, they've still unconsciously adopted the racist habits of those who had previously been in power, or C) the legacy of those racist policies has proven so pervasive that they remain relevant even if we know there's no good reason for them to still exist.

To be fair, the bit about only white people hating themselves is fairly accurate, and the funny thing is, it's a dead end. So you're a self-hating white person, all right. We've done a lot of shit. What does that actually accomplish. Does this help bring black people out of poverty? Does this stop violence from affecting black people any less? Does it stop the mass incarceration of black people for minor drug offenses? No, it doesn't.
