Half the time, you put all this work in with arguments only to get back, "No duh." At least with the Noah story. Not sure what you're getting at here. It really is an allegory, so all the in-depth analysis and "look how impractical this is" shit doesn't work with this story.

Absolutely and certainly wasn't. Deluge beliefs are and have always been common the world over. No one wrote it as an allegory. They thought it really happened. It's not now nor has it ever been some smart story with a hidden meaning. It is and always was an ignorant superstition about things that never were and could never be.
Here's what I'm guessing, though. You being wrong about it being allegory won't matter to you anymore than the story being wrong about a silly flood ever mattered to the faithful.

I saw a vintage 1980' s pair of rainbow suspenders ala Mork from Ork at a garage sale the other day.
I did not buy them in tribute to the late great Robin Williams - as these days they would get me way too many offers from gay men- and I would be forced into saying such ridiculous things as "nanu-nanu" and "shazbaat"....
