This is not true.

It is based on ancient arguments concerning what it means for one thing to change into another thing, vs. what it is for a single thing to change from one state to another.

If object A begins with the potentiality to grow and change into state X, state Y, and then state Z, it changes its state but continues to be the same object. That is, it changes from fetus to child to adult, but remains a human being.

If object B does not contain the potentiality to grow and change into state X, but then combines with another thing, and the new combination gains a new potentiality, then object B has changed from one thing to another. The egg alone does not contain the potentiality to change into an adult. Therefore it is not a human by itself. When fertilized, it gains that potentiality. Therefore the ontological change occurs at fertilization, not before and not after.

Not religious belief, not maudlin sentiment.

Quote:Here a foetus is not  considered a human being until it is viable ex utero. That is usually seen as at the end 24 weeks, and that is a maybe.

What is the logical argument which demonstrates that the thing becomes a human being when it becomes viable? Is there such an argument, or is it more a matter of practical convenience?

Therefore, this

is an oak tree. And this

is a dress.

Just because his mom is a vessel doesn't mean other women can't chose for themselves not to be a vessel.

The Supreme Court can't legally uphold a law sanctified by god.

Jimmy Carter is breaking his ties with organised religion (Christianity) after being a Christian for 60 years and he wrote an interesting article

Quote:Losing My Religion For Equality

I HAVE been a practising Christian all my life and a deacon and Bible teacher for many years. My faith is a source of strength and comfort to me, as religious beliefs are to hundreds of millions of people around the world. So my decision to sever my ties with the Southern Baptist Convention, after six decades, was painful and difficult. It was, however, an unavoidable decision when the convention’s leaders, quoting a few carefully selected Bible verses and claiming that Eve was created second to Adam and was responsible for original sin, ordained that women must be “subservient” to their husbands and prohibited from serving as deacons, pastors or chaplains in the military service.

This view that women are somehow inferior to men is not restricted to one religion or belief. Women are prevented from playing a full and equal role in many faiths. Nor, tragically, does its influence stop at the walls of the church, mosque, synagogue or temple. This discrimination, unjustifiably attributed to a Higher Authority, has provided a reason or excuse for the deprivation of women’s equal rights across the world for centuries.

At its most repugnant, the belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of men excuses slavery, violence, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and national laws that omit rape as a crime. But it also costs many millions of girls and women control over their own bodies and lives, and continues to deny them fair access to education, health, employment and influence within their own communities.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

South Dakota’s Republican governor Kristi Noem is pushing legislation that would require a period of prayer at the start of each public school day.

Quote:South Dakota’s Republican Gov. Kristi Noem has introduced a bill that would allow students in public schools to pray every morning at school if they so choose despite pushback from secular groups to similar bills in other states.

On Monday, Noem released the text of legislation that would “require a moment of silence in schools to begin the school day.”

In a statement, Noem shared her belief that “every student deserves the opportunity to begin their day with a calm, silent moment.”

“I hope students will take this opportunity to say a quick prayer or reflect on their upcoming day."

This sounds constitutional, as long as no-one leads a prayer, and as long as no school official calls it a time of prayer.

Students in public schools are already allowed to pray, if they so choose.

It's do nothing legislation aimed at servicing a talking point important to her reelection. Seems like she thinks her base are a bunch of dupes.

It's better to protect women and children from oppressive ideologies.  But by all means, keep defending the Duggars.
Yeah, it's much better to let languish in poverty. Just as long as Neo's taxes go up any.

That article is dated 2009, so he burned that bridge quite a while ago.

Losing our religion: Christians poised to become a minority

The number of Christians in England and Wales is close to falling below half of the population for the first time, with a large increase in the number who have no religious faith, figures show.

The ONS warned that the data sample for the 2019 figures was much smaller than for the population-wide census, stressing that it would be necessary to wait for results from the 2021 census for a more reliable comparison with 2011 figures.

Just 10.6 per cent of the population follow a religion other than Christianity, but this rises to more than 25 per cent in London. Across England and Wales, 51 per cent of people are Christian, 5.7 per cent are Muslim, 1.7 per cent are Hindu, 0.7 per cent are Sikh, 0.6 per cent are Jewish, 0.4 per cent are Buddhist, and 1.5 per cent cited another religion, while 38.4 per cent cited no religion.
