i think that it's a juvenile rebuttal on the christian's behalf. to be honest, i wouldn't take anyone seriously that offered that poorly thought out argument to me because they're stupid enough to not be able to recognize that it makes their faith look weak.
people are creatures of habit and tradition and i don't blame many people for sticking to a faith that they've grown up with. it's unfortunate, but eh. when someone comes in to their lives and jeopardizes what they've known all of their lives to be true, they act out childishly and retort with anything that they can conjure up. shrug
could i get a drink and an ashtray?

You can't choose to believe something.
As you look at your computer screen now can you choose to believe that the screen is not real and not really there.
I can. But then, I'm speshul.

Tell your friend he better make sure he's buried with a couple of coins over his eyes. It would be a shame if he didn't have any fare to get across Styx.

While we're at it, I have two dolls that are, in fact, gods. They demand whiskey and tobacco. Does your buddy need my address? Don't worry, I can be trusted to make sure they receive the offerings.

The very problems with Pascal's Wager are that first, you have to actually believe that God and hell exist for it to have any effect, and secondly, you would have to follow every single religion that exists or ever has existed just so you can make sure you're following the right one. This is impossible, because many if not most of these religions have mutually-exclusive beliefs. You can't worship all the Greek and Norse gods because Yahweh says to only worship him.

It did not cost him a dime to believe in God, huh? I've heard this many times from Christians. I like to use this to rebut that idiotic statement. This is a Christian mega-church near my home. It is located in Longwood, Florida.
It was recently built, to the tune of about 500 million dimes (about 50 million dollars). Every week this church takes in over $200,000 in tithes and offerings. Imagine the dent that could be made in worldwide hunger if all Christians would donate to food banks instead of churches.

Some friends of ours (my wife and I) are currently having a dispute over tithing. Apparently my buddy's wife was at church and the pastor decided to beat the tithing drum, implying that good christians in the chruch were meeting their "tithing commitment" whilst others may not be. Publicly shaming people (imagine the eyes going left and right, wondering who the bad christians were), in an attempt to make a buck. Real fucking classy. Apparently Pastor So and So needs a new pair of shoes. In any case, his wife feels the thumb on the top of her head and writes a check. Guess they couldn't afford it after all-que marital discord.

Well shame on those Christians that don't pony up! Don't they know how expensive it is to put on the Christmas show every year? Fuck, their mixing board alone probably cost $200,000!
And how is the pastor going to visit the Coliseum in Rome if all of the sheep aren't tithing enough?
