It’s rather telling that Biker seems to think we should be focusing our energies on the scenario that seems least likely to do much of anything. Hell, just subduing the shooter without a gun seems to work about twice as often as shooting him
Nicely done. You came up with the stupidest solution!
How about - the person subduing the attacker is more likely to be unarmed??
A 90 lbs grandmother is pretty unlikely to subdue a 200 lbs man with a knife -
Unless she happens to be packing a 38 special - and knows how to use it.
Or we can ponder the other example I mentioned multiple times last night.
Fictionalised movie, but of a real event, with the real guys involved, doing what actually happened. Only firearms involved belonged to the perp and were never discharged once they left the shooter’s hands.
And if it happened in America and not France, it would have been in the “civilian subdues a shooter without shooting him” category that just happens to be be more full of examples than “bad guy with a gun stopped by good guy with a gun.”
But, hey, you can probably prove anything once you completely divorce abstract thought from observable reality.

I also like how he misses the point that a bystander isn't likely to take out the perp period so relying on them to do so is fantasy. The question of whether they were armed or not is an irrelevant aside.

At this point, I’m not even sure if the larger point even registers in his head. At this point, I’m almost surprised he didn’t end up finding his way to complaining about gun-free zones and acting like literally anyone in this thread has advocated them as a solution and not dismissed them as meaningless security theatre.

Yes, those 90 old grans are famous for their reaction time and cat-like reflexes. Once she digs through her handbag - past the ketchup packets, pictures of the grandkids, hard candies, prescription bottles, and other assorted folderol - and gets her hand on that .38, Mr. Knife Wielding Guy has had it (provided Granny has remembered to load it and didn’t forget how to take the safety off and her aim is good and she hasn’t got the shakes and…).

Of course I don’t. But reflexes, reaction time, new skill acquisition, and memory all suffer with age - that’s not a slur, just a fact. The number of 90 year old grans able to defend themselves with a handgun against an armed assailant is pretty small.
