The first line in the abstract reads : "The human mind has an automatic tendency to avoid awareness of its mortality".

I am actually surprised that you're doubting this point, as it's actually ammunition for the atheist : they might argue, using this observation, that the immortality of the soul is nothing but a reflection of our subconscious -which constantly tries to "forget" that death is a thing.

Death is an unpleasant thought, just as being mauled to death by a wandering bear who is after my garbage. I try not to contemplate either scenario, in addition to a limitless set of other unpleasant situations.

When I was having a heart attack in the back of an ambulance, I was pretty aware of my mortality.

I knew that I may or may not live to see the dawn.

My cancer diagnosis was less of a facedown with own mortality.  I knew it would take time.  It might be a week or years, but the heart attack was right damn now...it had the potential of ending very quickly.

The enthusiasm is admirable, as expressed here. You're missing the point of the thread, though, it's about theoretical reasons for preferring theism over other worldviews. So, we have to try and give a cold and accurate assessment of the inner motivation that enables people to keep moving forward

I'm missing the point of the thread, it says.  Buddy, I think you're missing the point of life.

So...

I obvously don't prefer theism over other worldviews - I'm an anti-theist and vocal about it. I think that your gods and idols are just one more source of misery that puts people in the disadvantaged sets you ask us to consider...when you opine on how unworthy life is for living. I see you have reasons™...I'm noticing that they're all hot garbage. Would you call your own life not worth living if big mo told a teensy tiny fib? Is there nothing other than a gods existence you live for? If there is...wtf lead you to pose the question?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Mickey D's has better breakfasts.

That's the only thing I eat from there, and it's a rare thing.

Okay, I didn't know about this.......... I am sorry you went through this and sincerely hope everything gets better.

As you can see, the point of the thread is not to belittle anybody's hardships, it's certainly not to pretend that theists are the "tougher" people. I apologize again if my topic is misinterpreted, it's at best of theoretical interest.

Since I started making quilts there's no waiting for autumn. I make them fairly lightweight since I am in Texas...not like I would were I still in the midwest and would fill them with layers and layers of warmness.

A couple days ago I was able to open the windows...just for one day...but it was wonderful and I can't wait till I can do it for days on end.
